XM655 Today

After a very pleasant afternoon spent with my family at charlcote park (close proximity to wellesbourne airfield) i decided to stop by and have a look at ‘655. Today has been some of the strangest weather ive seen, and amid the driving snow, hail and a rather icy gale, i was amazed to see that there were people working on the old girl, a far cry from the apathy surrounding a few airframes at a nearby airfield that wont be named . So, after a pitstop at the flying school, (where on a wall, there is MASSIVE list of local and non local sponsors) to make sure that it was ok to go a bit closer to her and take a few pictures with my mobile phone (all i had to hand unfotrunately) firstly i would like to say that the guys at the ‘655 preservation society do a fantastic job, she’s been sat there for 24 years, 10 of which were in serious neglect, and yet she looks fantastic, in honestly quite remarkable condition, shining in the occasional ray of sunshine that broke through, she could have been ready for action. One fact of which the superb bunch of chaps are very proud is that ‘655 is the most powerful working vulcan in the world, the only live one with 300 series engines, and damn right they should be proud! 🙂

here are the following pictures i took of her 🙂

good to see the old girl being lovingly worked on

is she available to be looked at during the week as well? (from a photographic standpoint, not to go inside)

I’ll be traveling over from the USA in July but only have weekdays free

She is being taken down the runway on Sun 22nd June all being well..If you can get down there to support the event ..it also helps keep 655 alive as its one of their prime means of paying the bills that help keep her in such good shape!

I was up at Stratford Upon Avon and got a bus to Charlcotte park a few weeks back. As you can imagine how suprised I was to see XM655 as we passed the airfield, I didnt even know she was based there. Having said that she looked immaculate really crisp and clean, its easy to see how much hard work must go into it.

Good pictures Nashio966, was on XM655’s website earlier, the excellent team are usually working on her most Saturdays. As a Kentishman I intend to visit the Vulcan nearest to me on one of its open days this year, XL426 at Southend which has also had a lot of work carried out last year to continue it’s taxi-runs and survival outside for the next two decades. Can’t remember the link to their site but Vulcan Restoration Trust should find it.
