Xmas Thanks..

Thank you to Dale and Andrea at Anglia Flight for laying on such a lovely Xmas party last Thursday eve. It was great fun and nice to see so many faces from the past year all in one place.

Let me know when you need the engine hoist…

Think you will find it was BEYM that was spun in, IIRC BGBI then replaced it and MABI was sold when the company closed.

Nice picture, takes me back a bit to when we were all parked on the Eastern Apron/under the tower before everyone was banished to the Western boundary.

Norwich hasn’t really changed much, still a very easy place for GA to fly from/to, what surprises me is the number of GA visitors who fly in and park at the terminal and then have to endure security checks going in and coming back out again. All they really have to do is park at the Western side which is outside of the secure area.

It also surprises me the number of visitors who pay full rate landings instead of saying training flight when phoning for PPR or on the initial radio call. If they did that they would be quite a good discount and as far as I’m aware unless you are a bona fide business flight all flights are counted as continuation training and qualify for discount.

When you fly over after getting your PPL back ask to park at Hangar 10 and come and meet everyone in the bar/restaurant/clubroom.

Found the attached photo when searching for my PPL, it shows the old AFT fleet during my spoking/clubbing/eating greasy burgers at the airport diner time during August 1986 😎 . G-MABI was the one that the CFI flew into the ground during his airshow routine practice. G-AVIR was the 172. For some reason we tended to prefer to fly G-BEYM, rather than ‘BI, I cannot recall why?

As well as getting my PPL in the summer of ’86 at Norwich, I was also thrown out of a nightclub for the first time

We only bother with the night clubs where the bouncers throw you in!

Looks like not much has changed since I was at Norwich in ’86……

We’ve just refined our social graces……..

Possibly, I guess you are going for the Boomer 2006 title then?
If you are going for the forum fly-in and S’man is still in the barn, take the FW and I’ll take the Yak?

I’m sure you will be very welcome, just ask to park at hangar 10, remember to book a training rate with ATC! Or give the club a call on 01603 301991 or 01603 412888 and get them to sort it for you. You can even pre-book your lunch so its ready when you arrive!

My sentiments entirely, can’t recommend it enough – can’t beat landing the Stearman there in between holiday jets!!

Nice fleet, I have noticed that a lot of clubs have broadened their fleets/appeal nowadays, quite a change from when I last flew.

I will add Norwich to my list of destinations, once I get my wings back, be nice to fly in there again after all of these years!

No, it was set up long after the old AFT closed and doesn’t have any links with them I believe. They have some interesting aircraft apart from the ‘normal’ C150 aerobats for PPL training which include a Yak 52, FW190 replica and, under rebuild, another 150 which they plan to turn into a taildragger with 150 hp and a T6 Harvard. Apart from that they have probably the best club facilities in East Anglia with a lovely first floor bar/restaurant overlooking the runway with panoramic windows. A lot of PPL’s fly in from different airfields for Sunday roast nowadays. Have a look at their website.

Will it be open invite?? If so count me in – post the phone number here or PM me.

Video footage that “turns up” can be dodgy – as you well know

Yep, I believe all are welcome, not just club members. I’d call Andrea on 01603 301991, but watch out, when I called she had a bit of a cold!

So is this the club that replaced Anglia Flight Training that I learnt at in the mid ’80s?

Yep, he’s the only guy I know who got married, had a baby and filed for divorce in 10 months flat!

Are you going to the talk/video show on the opening of the first Norwich Airport on Mousehold in 1931 if they organise it? I can’t wait to see this video footage that has turned up, apparentely its the only footage of Mousehold aerodrome around.

Yep, thanks, was great fun. Loved your pressie DB. Also loved the ‘James McCormick Challenge Trophy for doing something stupidly funny’. Hope my name never gets on it. Bet yours does in 2006 though!
Thought the meal they put on was terrific, noticed SC had double everything!
