DAY: ONE JU88 ON RECCO OFF E. COAST

NIGHT: NIL

MANSTON ACTIVITY.

AIR ACTIVITY WAS NEGLIGIBLE, CONSISTING MAINLY OF TWO LOW – LEVEL BOMBING ATTACKS BY AN OLD – FASHIONED BI – PLANE A/C DIRECTED AGAINST FORWARD ELEMENTS OF 609 SQUADRON WHO WERE ENGAGED IN MOPPING – UP THE REST OF THE STATION ON THE CHAMP DE RUGBY. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE, (TO COVER THE ENEMY WITH SOOT AND DERISION) WAS NOT ACHIEVED.

The day in question. In the original photo a copy of the above menue can be seen. The pilot in the white overal is ‘Pete’ Bearman, who lost his life in a flying accident, 25/8/44.
