you did all you could Anon, i noticed the publications of auctions etc , I desperately would have bid on some of the items, but due to bad credit, and very little money. I couldnt do much but helplessly watch, me and many many like me I imagine, dreamers you could say , but I take my hat off to you all who thought and pushed for Millom museum, you all made a amazing feat, bringing all that aviation heritage together, under one roof, just such a shame it ended like it did, after all the work everyone put into it at Millom.

As you say – you certainly did all you could to advertise the sale, but I feel the pick-up location was against you in this case 🙁 It was a shame it had to go before the auction “proper” was organised, as once people were at the site with their transport at the ready, they seemed much more inclined to bid!

She went up for auction on the E site but nobody was interested!
She went up for auction on that E site after my posting of its ‘availability’ was removed from this site along with a HS748 nose too!
I tried to give it wide publicity but alas, nobody stepped up to the plate so they both had to go from Millom site ASAP by order of the liquidator!
Both ‘Old Bob’ and 298 went a local scrap dealer who cleared them from site pronto as required.
I have her tail boom numbers for posterity….it was a VERY SAD day believe me after all the effort I went to get them for Millom in the first place!!!
We saved what we could! …Good Show all round!

Here’s a photo – I have the frame of the co-pilot’s seat and know the location of the U/C if anyone’s interested (PM me) – She was pretty well stripped out. Shame she didn’t make it to the proper auction – the way bidding was going she would almost have certainly sold and perhaps would still be with us now.

Chopper chopped
The machine (or what was left of it) went to a local scrap dealer who cut it up on site and took it to his yard 200 yards away.
I have a photo of it somewhere just before it left, its main rotor gearbox and other bits lying on the floor next to it.
Anon.
