I was lucky to catch XS458 doing an engine test run on Saturday. Unfortunately I didnt catch the afterburner (I was eating a sandwich)

I also took a pic of G-BMSG, the Saab Lansen.. The tail and other bits have been removed now as apparently the aircraft will be moved to somewhere in Wolverhampton and will be mounted in a forecourt.

Mike -I guess the proof of the pudding is how many Hunters are in government contract use compared to the number of Lansens!

probably out of date but google earth shows
just below the railway line

I’m not so sure that’s true. Much as I’m a Hunter fan I always thought of the Lansen as the machine the Hunter could have been with a bit of effort. Especially considering they are the same era.

Hi, any ideas about the sort of price you are looking for? Would you part with the cockpit separately?
Regards
Richy.

It’s ashame that your plans didn’t come to fruition!
Wouldn’t somewhere like the aeropark at East Midlands be interested? Or as suggested, NAM?

Thanks for the update.
I thought that when it left the intent was to have it on display somewhere. Sad to hear its future is still uncertain.
Our intention was indeed to mount the plane as a display but planning laws & regulations coupled with the transport guys chopping the wings and tail off have put a stop to that idea.
We would dearly like the plane to go to a good home and are open to any reasonable offers. We still have the wings and tail stored also.
Hope someone can help relocate the plane soon.
Thanks

Slow on the uptake this week – too much work and getting ready for a trip round Lincolnshire’s Cold War sites tomorrow – Thor, Bloodhound etc. 🙂
Don’t forget the Safir as well – IIRC someone from NAM once had a ‘nibble’ at the Lansen, but at the time the owner had high intentions for the airframe.

The Lansen is a nice aircraft but in terms of technology and its place in history its really irrelevant to British preservation.
The same could be said for the Viggen and Draken, but thankfully the NAM already have examples of these preserved in their impressive collection. Hence my tongue in cheek suggestion of a fitting home for the Lansen.

The thought of displaying at a SAAB garage was OK a few years ago but as the car firm has gone under, not much point. Its still a smart looking aircraft in my view.
(I am a SAAB car owner):(:(:(

Its an aircraft that was marginally worth saving when at Cranfield -now its been comprehensively cut in various places its really not worthwhile in my mind. The Lansen is a nice aircraft but in terms of technology and its place in history its really irrelevant to British preservation.

Bring it to Brunty 😀

Not for me to put forward a museum to take it on, but as NAM already have a Viggen and Draken then surely a Lansen would look very at home there.
Over to you plugmeister 😀

Its future has been uncertain since probably 1985 ! I should imagine it will turn up at Cockpitfest one day!

Sabb lansen 1959
Hi
The Saab is still in our Wolverhampton yard.
We are trying to find it a good home for renovation, conversion to a flight simulator or maybe display in a millionaires mansion.
Although we are a recycling facility we really don’t want to cut it up into tiny pieces so if anyone is interested please let me know.
Thank You

Has there been any update on where the Lansen will be definitely going or is it still currently stored?
Its still stored in the same compound, noted about a week ago.

Regarding fire crew in attendance – they arrived a few minutes before they started the engine. I believe the aircraft was last started up about 8 months ago or so (anyone confirm?) so I guess they thought it would be safer to have fire crew there?
nothing unusual. Its standard practice to have GA fire fighters in attendance after any major work on engines or pipes.

Lansen has moved
A tip off on Friday, followed by a recce on Saturday (yesterday) found the Lansen now sitting next to the railway line on the outskirts of Willenhall town centre.
Attached was the best shot we could get of it, taken from a railway bridge, as its in a locked compound, run by ‘Triple R Solutions’ which appears to be some sort of recycling company. It was located behind by several large skips full of ‘stuff’ and appears to be a storage yard rather that an active recycling facility.
