Sad sight, but good to hear the nose was saved. Hope it makes it into a museum someday!

A couple of pics of the scrapping in here – http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2391168&page=4#post31343154
They’ve kept the nose for potential further research work.

I can confirm that she was chopped up this afternoon.

I was so pleased to read your comment Circus 6. Just when I thought I was the only one who hates all this ‘her’ and ‘she’ nonsense when referring to aeroplanes.
It’s an affliction of having worked on them for a quarter of a century. Regardless of shape they can all be a total pain to work on. They’re just machines (albeit ones we seem to get overly nostalgic about).

It’s it, not her. The aeroplane has no female genitalia and is inanimate.
The grammatical demonstration in your last sentence is superseded somewhat by my 6 year old nephew. Now go back to your corner…

Heard that XV208 was scrapped today at Cambridge, sad end for such a colorful air frame.
Sadly this seems to be the case.

She’s been wingless for a while, and I believe in and out of the hangar on numerous occasions as sometimes she was visible and then disappeared for a day or two.
I guess scrapping was inevitable!

I almost got a flight of a lifetime on ‘Snoopy’ on what I believe was its last trip; a weather research sortie to the Arctic around 1999/2000. I really should have found the time. 🙁

I thought the Austrians had bought the airframe and it was being converted back to a standard Herc,at least the wings have come in handy! Pity it wasnt saved for a museum, a very unique airframe.

I seem to recall from a news article in AFM that the wings were going to be used on Austrian Herc 8T-CA.

Sold as spares, Snoopy included.

The RAF Hercules were stripped bare by Marshalls when new and refitted with British equipment. Sadly, she’s no good for spares to anyone other than the RAF who will have no use.
There are C130K still in service elsewhere – Sri Lanka, Mexico and Austria bought a few ex-RAF airframes

When the C130 tankers were going to be retired/sold I tried to get RAF Lynham, IWM Duxford and Marshalls interested in preserving one. This would have made an impressive tribute to all those (civil and military) who had contributed to the rapid conversion for the Falklands. I did not receive a single reply from anyone….

TBH Sabrejet ,if you are going to criticise someone then you have to accept it when you make a mistake.
How short sighted of Duxford to turn those aircraft down, even if they just had the cockpits to allow people access-such a shame.

A couple of her in happier days.
Circa 2000 if memory serves.
