XV350 – brief pic detail

For buccsociety.

Bunch of pix of XV350 taken today (Sat 17 June) at East Midlands Aeropark. No Aeropark guys in obvious evidence except the bloke on the gate. He says that recently(?) the “Bruningthorpe guys” had been up and arranged two main jacks around the kite. He went on to say that it had had a general hydraulics failure some time ago and, he thinks, no one has worked on it for a while. 🙁

Most obvious problem is that the port oleo has now collapsed (reason for the jacks?). Generally the kite is suffering from overall “outside” type deterioration though, especially the folding wing-joints, newly exposed screws, control links, paint peeling, etc. Strangely the canopy looks in good order. See pix for detail.

Buccsociety – I’ve put several of the pics here as smaller reproductions, but I have them as larger (2048×1360) images which show much more detail. PM me if you want me to Zip them to you.

Hope this helps.

It’s quite a nice little aeropark, kites are getting in a bit of a state though, especially the Varsity. Also, apart from being only a quid to get in, you can sit on the bank and watch the take off and landings and other activities of the EM Airport. Very windy though.

The part of my text bears no relation to the OX-16 problem and wasn’t refering to your group. Stocks of OX-16 are available and I will get it shortly.
As for machines running etc – the Aeropark was able to run a number of machines on it’s previous site including the Varsity . However on the new site that isn’t posible to the same degree.

As for offers of assistance – well the Aeropark has been at it a long time and the last time they helped a group who needed a
lend of a STAD starter trolley it took a long time to come back and was a kit of parts.

We offered a free of charge service, not them offering us, all we asked was for them to obtain a quantity of OX-16, our stocks of 16 is running very low and do not wish to part with any of it.

It is good to hear that she is receiving attention, please guys, if you need any help give either myself or adwwebber a PM.

Best of luck for the future.

PS: Thanks for the images Les, I will be in contact tomorrow.

What condtion is their Vulcan (XM575) in at the minute?

Not to bad externally (but not as good as Coventry’s). Neoprene on top of fin needs seeing to, maybe a few areas to be paint covered but mostly it’s cosmetic – “outdoors” type fading, etc. Can’t say about the systems, they used to work.

I was there last Sunday and there were a number of guys working on the aircraft , in particular the Buccaneer and Whirlwind. The Varsity is in the middle of a repaint hence it’s apperance . Graham Vail is taking a week off
in August to repaint the top of the fuselage and I am sure any offers of help in doing this would be appreciated!
The Buccaneer itself is receiving some tender loving care. I quantity of OX-16 is on it’s way which will put her on an even keel. The jacks were supplied by Aeroventure. As for offers of assistance – well the Aeropark has been at it a long time and the last time they helped a group who needed a
lend of a STAD starter trolley it took a long time to come back and was a kit of parts.
The Aeropark was effectively moribund for a number of years because of the airport plans. Now they have the ability to make progress on the new site.

some good shots there les, thanks

The brunty guys have been there true, and the hydraulics are in emergency for some reason. As to the jacks unless buccsociety and 894’s team went and put them there i have no idea who did it.
i have spoken to one of the aero park guys earlier this year and as Buccsociety said offers to help have been made before to no avail.

i live not far away and go there quite often (see Buccaneer preservations post) and have noticed 350 slipping further over every time i go past.

you will also notice that she has quite a mis match of colours on here i.e airelons, top of tail .

The bag stuck in the canopy still there or removed ?
