Hello Guys,
I have a question about the Yak 11 (Moose). I have no Idea how these planes where painted during their actual servicelife as trainers with the Russian AF. I have found pics or profiles from polish and czech shemed Yak 11’s, but I can’t find a thing about Yak 11’s in a russian sheme.
I am not looking for a russian sheme used on a currenntly airworthy yak 11. As far as I know, all the restored Yak 11’s (except for one which had czech AF colours) are painted in the colours of wartime fighters and not as a Yak 11 flew in service.
So any info, pics or profiles are welcome.
Thanks,
Stieglitz

Is this a current flier, or under rebuild? Hungarian colors ought to be an interesting choice. Nice to see something which no one else has tried. Look forward to see the plane in its new color scheme.T J

Having a soft spot for the Yak-11, I try to buy all that I can and last weekend at the model show at Yeovilton bought for the pricely sum of £1 a Polish publication on the Yak-11. This from what I can remember has Soviet profiles in it.

Leave the poor old Yak 11 alone, it a wonderful machine and doesn’t deserve to be butchered like so many of its relations.
Seriously though good luck with whatever you do, just be kind to the old girl.
It looks as though parts must be available for the Yak-11 since so many here in Europe run with the original ASh-21 engine. I’d love to see both these Yak’s fly in this guise as opposed to the R-1830 scheme, but as Yak 11 fan says, best of luck with your venture!
Hi guys, well funny you talk about that, i was also sharing that point of view and will paint my yak C11 in hungarian colors….just find these machines should stay very original…anyway owner’s money decides but…

Where? In Rotterdam! :p
No not really to race it just a modified one with bigger engine, better brakes, etc… Just the mods they use for racing to improve the airplane because the Yak-11 can handle it.

Would be nice to see one original Yak and one air racer, but I’d rather like to see two original Yaks, oh well, a ‘Super Yak-11″ would be nice 😀
One yak as an air-racer, where do you want to race with it

Thanks Mennie! Those profiles are just what I’m looking for! 🙂
Also interesting to read about your intended project on your nice site.

A while ago I put an idea on my website to restore 2 Yak-11’s. One to original specs and one as “air racer”. The colour profile of the original I found here: http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/yak11/yak11-1.php
My plan here: http://www.warbird-hangar.com/page.php?2

Nice find Yakrider. 🙂 This is the first time I see a USSR yak 11 profile. Thanks! It does look very basic. Not what I’m used to see on current Yaks. But it would be great to have one in original Y11 colours.
So most of them where painted grey. Did the USSR Yak 11 mostely/always have a yellow spinner?
Any further additions are welcome!

There are a couple of pictures in Herbert Leonard’s book “Encyclopedia of Soviet Fighters 1939-51′. The Yak 11s appear to be in an overall light grey scheme, possibly AMT-11, with the normal bordered stars of the period. There don’t seem to be any individual serials. Wings Palette also give this profile:
