Yak 52 cockpits

Ive only just noticed this on my photo but there seems to be something between the cockpits on top of the instrument panel and i was wondering what it is and what it is for.

Given the Soviet way of doing things that’s quite likely.

On my conversion to type I was told that the circular hole in the partition was in order that the instructor in the rear seat could shoot the student through the head if he started setting a course for the West.

Thank you for the explanation. I had never noticed it on another Yak, im going to have a closer look at some other photos now. I think the only reason i noticed that was it to me seems to have something painted on it.

Neat solution. I’ve never been close enough to a Yak 52 to notice. Anyone got a photo they’d be willing to post on here please?

It is a perspex partition, which keeps it roasty-toasty cosy if you are flying solo, as well as preventing migration of FOD hazzard articles There is also small letter-box type drop down panel in the middle thorough which can be passed rude notes or in-flight rations.
