Yemen gets MIG 29s!

YEMEN TAKES DELIVERY OF RUSSIAN MiG-29 JETS

CAIRO [MENL] — Yemen has obtained MiG-29 fighter-jets from Russia.

The official Yemeni news agency said an unspecified number of jets were received in a ceremony last month at an air force base in Sanaa. The ceremony was presided over by Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The fighter-jets were identified as the MiG-29 Fulcrum. Arab diplomatic sources said the delivery was the first of two batches of planes ordered by Sanaa.

Yemeni Air Force commander Col. Mohammed Saleh Ahmar said the new warplanes are not meant to pose a threat against any of Sanaa’s neighbors. The reference was to Saudi Arabia, which has been concerned by the Yemeni military buildup.
