Yeovilton 2009

Spent a fairly enjoyable day at Yeovilton yesterday… here’s a few of my photos… I’ve got to admit i struggled a bit with the light and weather here, so i’m not really happy with the results. C+C appreciated. 🙂

The Skyraider… what with cancellations, etc in the past I’ve actually waited 2 years to see this beast!

Fly Navy Hawk, didnt realise there were so many hawks painted up with the special colours.

Another one I’ve waited a while to see.

Still can’t quite believe they actually turned up!

Dutch out in force…

Portuguese lynx…

…and one of ours.

And onto the flying… very slow at some points, particularly when the Vixen was agonisingly sat on the hold whilst waiting for the royal flight to depart. :sleepy: Sadly the Vulcan and RNLAF F-16 went tech so two of the potential highlights couldnt fly. Still, they made the best of pretty poor weather so cant complain.

I forgot Brain Grant flew the Vixen he retired from flying her last year at Bournmouth airshow I think , Yeah I was going to say he flys G-naty now though I think the odd time he flys there JP.

Found this site after looking for FRADU Hunters 🙂 http://www.fradu-hunters.co.uk/

Also why is the RNHF not flying this year?

Lt Cdr Matt Whitfield’s mentor on the CVIX was its former display pilot Brian Grant, so I think he deserves a bit of recognition for his part in Matt’s blossoming display career 🙂

Hopefully Matt will get to fly the RNHF Sea Hawk this year also subject to serviceability.

I know Brian Grant too, he used to fly the FRADU Hunters from Yoevilton before we [FRADU] changed to Hawk, & he became the unit manager/chief pilot when we moved to Culdrose.
Brian was flying the Gnat at Culdrose air day.

The next days out for the FlyNavy livery aircraft is the Navy day @ Devonport on 5th & 6th Sept, no more after that. fairly sure they aren’t doing Bournemouth, but plans could change.

I know Matt Whitfield, he’s one of the Instructors on NFSF at Yoevilton, they use our aircraft, saw him yesterday to, didn’t know he was flying the Sea Vixen though.

Ok I wait and see :cool:Oh you know Lt Cdr Matt Whitfield he does a brilliant display in her. Since I seen matt display the sea vixen its been a brilliant display like the days when dan griffins flew it . Nice picture there Jake like the one of Foxy lady I am having a thing at the moment with Sea vixens 😎

Not one of our pilots, all ours are EX- RN or RAF guys.

not had all 7 up togetrher as a formation, 4 up & 1 on flyable spare tomorrow at Culdrose air day & the other 2 on static with a FRA Falcon.

Oh Ok well I found out the Sea Vixen pilot is Lt Cdr Matt Whitfield RN http://www.dehavillandaviation.com/DHA/Pilots.html

I think before you repaint them back to there normal colours there should be a flypast with all 7:cool: I hope we get to see a flypast at bournmouth airshow as there doing it as FlyNavy 100 with 2 or 4 Hawks ,2 FRA Falcon 20’s and the Sea Vixen 😀 I wish

or the Sea Vixen which I hear is being flown by a RN pilot this year is he one of you hawk boys?

Congratulations with the award.

The weather forecast was so bad that I changed my mind and didn’t go to Yeovilton as intended. 😡 There will be a next time. 🙂

God, don’t suggest that, it’s been very busy to get these 7 aircraft ready for the display’s, so far they have taken part in the 100 years fly past over London [4 a/c], Waddington airshow [6a/c], Yoevilton airshow [7a/c] & just sent 6 to RIAT for this weekend, all extra work on top of our normal JSATO taskings, [this week it’s been 4 days of 14 to 19 sorties]

just found this Fly Navy 100Years Hawks decal set/kit

Maybe the RN should create their own Aerobatic display team to rival The red arrows :diablo::D

Fly Navy Hawk, didnt realise there were so many hawks painted up with the special colours.

we have 7 of them in the fly navy 100 livery, that’s the first display all 7 have attended at the same time. they all belong to FRADU.

great photo’s, that Skyraider is a big bit of kit.

Brilliant shots there, like the Sea Vixen ones 😎 I see she is flown by a RN pilot for this display season think he is based at Yeovilton?
