Dispite a few very dark clouds the rain held off and the sun eventually came out.

Rob.

Have been to Yeovilton before but have never been to a show there so was just interested to hear your reasoning.

Interesting point about being locked in. Never thought of the security angle before but it is doubtful if that would impact upon me as it is unlikely I would go on my own now unless I was expecting to meet someone there. Never know when I’m going to need somebody to pick me up off the floor!

You can have a similar experience elsewhere though can’t you? I mean the provision of chairs etc.? I’m thinking of the various enclosures offered at certain shows.

Crowds I also tend to have a problem with. If I’m on my own I’ll be on crutches and balance becomes a real issue in a crowd. If I’m in the chair some of that is taken away but it’s bloody awful being sat down while passing through crowds. You do tend to get a feeling which I can’t help acquainting with what I perceive claustrophobia to feel like. Not to mention the looks you get which generally range from ‘how dare he be here in that thing,, up to ‘ahh, isn’t it a shame.’

,
Kev,

You may not recall, but we have met (@ Cosford) – so I know of your physical condition.

Given that I would expect next year’s photocall day to be somewhat livelier than this years was, I would recommend that you go.

While it is on grass, everyone parks right next to the hospitality tent and there is usually only about 200 people there, if that. It’s more like a garden party.

On show day, all parking is off site, in surrounding fields – definitely not where you want to be.

They don’t open the gate until 1pm, so there should be plenty of time to make the entire trip there in daylight, but you only have about a half hour window (1 to 1.30) to enter, before the gates are locked.

And what a strange show it was as well. I know the weather didn’t help, but the word ‘crap’ springs to mind 🙁

Funny thing was, had to drive past Western Toyland enroute down the M5… and no sign of any wonderful museum there !!

I hasten to add Mr Kev 35 I did not start the Western toyland slur on those wo died there, it was this chap above, and whos remarks i found offensive ,like you rightly said, hence why i used it in our defence, I did not start this, but it seems people are very quick on here to run down peoples efforts, which infuriate me , it seems any chanc they get , they make sly comments deriding what we are trying to achive there,

as for the Canberra yes, i admit I am no expert, but with my friend at westonzoylands guidance, i will complete her, if anything all ready I have amassed a lot of parts to put in her, so your altimeter comment is quite comical, and i would do nothing to the canberra that could destroy her ,
I have the right tools and equiptment and help, she will be finished,

as for “childish ” outburst and Rants, I am not a Mad Muslim Cleric, Am i not allowed to Defend myself when others scorn us, and generally take the mickey,

I only came on this thread to see the nice pics of the Yoevilton airshow, only to find to my Horror , MORE sly nasty remarks against myself and others involved, I had to jump to our defence,

I will never win a argument with the likes of you sir, and I accept I am not as good with words as you are, No doubt , you will answer this in your usual fashion, using big words to make me look “childish” or whatever Profound new word you can call me,

as for research, when I need it I know exactly where to look, I have had dealings with Kew and Hendon Before, Not including the local press, and
local people. I dont need it yet , and when i do i will get it, I too have done over 20 years of research and know what avenues i need to take to find it,
I have it all anyway from a local historian in Westonzoyland.

To Rob Ant ,
I Apologise Profusely for interupting this thread, I just wanted to see some photos of the show , which were exelent , I would have gone but never realised it was on, even if it was to take some pictures of the Hunters, which are one of my Favs ,
But I came to look at the thread, and low and behold, yet again there was some nasty comments from people against our project, I hope you understand I had to defend our corner,

My Dear Mr. Merkle.

Strangely enough I was asking Matt out of genuine interest because I appear to be, while carrying out entirely unconnected research, stumbling regularly upon more references to RAF Weston Zoyland and the Squadrons which operated from there. I thought perhaps they may have been useful to him in a minor way. In light of your latest petulant and childish outburst I am coming to realise that any project you may be involved in is hardly likely to come to a happy ending is it?

But the worst thing? Your continuing insistence on refusing to listen to any advice, however good or well intentioned it might be, and your predilection for childish outbursts like the one above. In just a few days I have gathered a fair chunk of information on Weston Zoyland without even stepping out of my front room. I have gathered numerous leads to follow and worked out, in simple terms, an easyish way in which the research could be continued and collated at the same time. The question now, following your rant, is why on earth would anyone want to help you with anything?

You really don’t consider and plan anything do you? Yours (or whoever’s) project for Weston Zoyland has now reached the point where it is barely credible. You may not be the man at the top but you actively took on the role of spokesperson. And look where it’s got you? I would NEVER refer to Weston Zoyland as Weston Toyland because I personally believe it is disrespectful to those who were stationed there and particularly to those who died operating from there. But you, singlehandedly, have turned the idea into a subject of ridicule. You, no-one else.

Edited to add: You are indeed correct about my not offering to help clean up the airfield. I find it extremely difficult going across rough ground in my wheelchair and due to the nature of my condition I do not have the strength and manual dexterity to be much use in that deaprtment. I can and could have helped in other ways. Your obnoxious and self pitying rants have pretty much precluded that now.

And seeing as we’ve come this far, on the subject of planning and projects, I wonder what will become of your Canberra? Lack of planning means you are now whingeing about not being able to afford a trailer with the outcome that you are now considering removing the nose of the Canberra? What else can you cut corners on? Perhaps in two years time your Canberra cockpit project will be reduced to an altimeter? Ridiculous as it sounds I can see it coming.

Apologies to RobAnt for the thread hijack. I will reply to that separately.

Western Toyland,

I will refrain from getting angry this time, and hold my tongue, but needless to say I am quite hurt by Grim Reapers/ Kev 35 comments and So called “Very Good” friends of mines Constant P@@@ taking,

I have said as before there is a land issue.
The man who is starting all this has enough on his plate,I remember the day a certain gentleman who is starting the westonzoyland project let you (FW190) climb inside his german booker Jungmann at kemble a few years ago for a Taxi around the drome for free, you know of him and the work he does, so why do you scorn and take the p@@@ out of the man who works hard for aviation/preservation in general and who was so kind to you, Also I hasten to add he has no internet so he is not here to defend himself. what a bunch of rotters you really are, I could say worse, there is a mention of a museum starting up on “Western Toyland” in the future, and you all seem to think in one month there will be a mini Duxford, you are a Absolute Joke all of you who act in this way, I would like to see you get off your arses, pay out lots of money, spend weekend after weekend night after night trying to sort things out in the background,
I will NOT be at Duxford this year,or any other year, from now on ,
I understand if you do not agree what we are doing, or if you are even interested, but I do mind when you make remark Laughing behind our backs when we are at least trying, on little funds , and lots of political issues,
It may not happen this year, or the next, but it is on the cards, and if anyone knew my good friend he never lets anyone down, if he says he will do something he very normally does, I cannot think of Many men that have restored to fly 3 aircraft from absolute wrecks , which he has, and a few years ago took on the worlds only Gay Class Motor Torpedo Boat , and has done a wonderful Job, restoring her from a complete wreck, having to sell his house in the process to pay for the work /parts /equiptment to do the job, !!! and has restored it in a matter of a few years pretty much Day and Night all by himself , all 75ft of it , and his friends help when they can, this does not include he is trying to start a succesful bussiness.

When you can do better than him, I will listen to your comments , Until then, your constant “Ribbing” of any project this gentleman and friends undertake I will totally disregard, I hope you can all have your hats and eat them in the future,
Oh and By the way dont direct your Western toyland comments to Mr French XH688 as he has now decided to leave the project because of other commitments, I also believe , myself, Himself or anyone else Do not have to Justify ourselves to any of you,
The Whole reason WZ was talked about in the first place was to find help in clearing the land , volounteers etc to get things going, its funny ,we never got much of that apart from a very few good people, the rest of you just sat back and take the P@@@ ,I should have not expected any better from such a bunch of hypocrites, who have nothing better than to scorn and laugh at other peoples efforts,
so as for the forum Meet at Duxford, well I wont be there, because the forum is one of the most unfriendliest places i have ever had the miss-fortune to visit,
all be it I am not having a go at all of you ,only those that for the past 3 months have done nothing but take the P@@@ and scorn, make cruel remarks, sometimes personal, and try to scupper anything we try, do you not realise that Govorning Bodies ALSO read this forum, and as such your hurtful comments can be read by anyone, so what chance would we have when you try and sink us before we start, as I said before “MUD sticks”
I have said my Piece ,
Yours
Mr Chris Collins

I don’t understand. Why don’t you go to the show rather than the, apparently, non show?

Regards,

kev35

Well, there are several points that usually make photocall day better from my point of view, Kev: –

1. It is usually a lot lot better than on this occasion.
2. It is cheaper. (Not just in entry fee terms, but with less traffic on the roads than show day. so there is a small saving in petrol too. Not to mention the inevitable show day queue frustration.)
3. It is a lot more civilized in that there are no huge crowds jostling for position. I’m not one for big crowds, personally – but it’s something I have to put up with most times.
4. Because everyone is locked in, there is less chance of having any of your kit knicked if you need to pop to the loo.
5. Chairs are provided, so nothing to carry around except your lunchbox and camera.
6. And, of course, no one could have predicted the lack of activity. Last year, and the year before, we had great days.

I just find it a much more comfortable experience, really. So I lucked out this year – I’ll put it down to the rising price of fuel at the moment.

If next year it doesn’t work, I’ll go back to the proper show date. Or, just in case, go to both.

Matt.

Grim Reaper’s pop might be a reflection of your over enthusiasm which produced much noise and little result to show for it so far.

BTW, how’s your research going? You should be well on your way by now.
