The French newspaper Le Républicain Lorrain reports that the Spitfire PR.XIX PS890 registered F-AZJS, which was damaged in a take-off accident in June 2017, is currently being restored by Historic Flying Limited in the United-Kingdom as well as in the USA. The aircraft is expected to fly again in the spring of 2019.
More information and photos can be found on the Républicain Lorrain website (in French).

I liked it too – I see the two late mark Seafires under restoration are Mk46s which presumably will be fitted with contra-rotating props? Looking forward…

Something like this?
Exactly like that!
To my mind, the contra-prop somehow seems to suit the 19 more than the normal 5 blade jobbie…

Bit keen getting the tailwheel off the ground as you let the brakes off…
By: Chad Veich - 3rd December 2018 at 21:40
Chances are pretty good she would still be flying had they left the contra prop on it.

Must have been a lot of fun to play with, judging by that take off. It still looked odd though 😉

I remember when he opened the taps on that thing on formation takeoff at Legends – damn thing went up like a homesick angel!
Something like this?

I was told on FB that the pilot had no serious physical injuries which is good news.

No need to convert the currency, Euros will do…
Thanks.

The repairs will cost upwards of two million Euros.
You can convert to your own currency

Aujourd’hui, cet avion mythique est en restauration en Angleterre et aux Etats-Unis.
Il devrait retourner dans le ciel au printemps prochain.
Son propriétaire livre quelques images de sa remise en état, facturée 2 millions d’euros.

I tail rode that Spit at a windy Legends in 2007, it had the contraprop then.
By: Sopwith - 27th November 2018 at 00:01
Yes thank you, good to hear .

Doing my part to keep a Spitfire thread alive…
One wonders (out of idle curiosity, I have no real need to know someone else’s business)
what a repair like that would cost?
Rather like knowing how much insurance paid out to fix Rowan Atkins’ McLaren (it cost a million to buy, £2-3 million to fix…say goodbye to your no claims bonus…and it was sold for an estimated £7-9 million).

Thanks for the news 🙂

Great news.
By: blurrkup - 26th November 2018 at 18:45
Yes same aircraft.

Good to see a late marque Spitfire (oh for an airworthy Mk.21, 22 or 24), I remember a French PR.XIX displaying at Duxford in the 2000somethingish but fitted with a contra-prop.
Is this the same airframe?
