Had a nice day out at the Yorkshire Air museum today, they have got a nice collection of planes and some top class exhibitions. The Blue Diamonds Hunter is just so cool, as is the Halifax and the Victor. I would recommend the museum to anyone as it’s a brilliant way to spend a few hours. Also the control tower is excellent.
I got to sit in a Jet Provost and Canberra cockpit, oh and yes I did play with the controls but never made no aeroplane sounds lol.
The staff were very helpful and the food in the restaurant is rather nice, so just go up there and enjoy 🙂
Here are some photos (sorry to 56k user’s about the download time).

It did say on the website that there was a possibility of having two tornados. It seems like they are XZ631 and ZA354 both from Warton.

Yeah the Barnes Wallis Collection and the Air Gunners’ Display plus all the other stuff are just fantastic.

Been a few years since I was last there – the Halifax was still a set of wings propped up outside !!!
Will definately be there for the airshow this year, as I’ve treated myself to a flight up with Air Atlantique, but may still go up before, when it will be a bit quieter.
I was surprised at seeing two Tonkas as well !!

Elvington
Many thanks for sharing. I last visited Elvington about a year ago and they seem to have acquired even more hardware since then! It is an excellent museum and there are a number of additional attractions, not least the Barnes Wallis Collection and the Air Gunners’ Display, with its turrets and other items. However, the Halifax (one of my favourite ac) is the one that always impresses me!

And I presume that’s the ex-Sandtoft Gannet?
Yes it is.
