I have been very impressed with the response to people asking for help on this forum. Now I hope you can help me. I would like to see any pictures of Brieghton and Burn airfields. war time and post war when both were used for storage. Is it true there were rows and rows of tanks, trucks, aircraft ect at Burn after the war. And does any one have pictures of the Thor and Bloodhound weapons based at Brieghton.

‘From Hull, Hell and Halifax’ by Chris Blanchett – another cracking book – large format – now out of print I believe. Covers all the WW2 bomber fields in Yorkshire… I also remember seeing a book about Burn airfield in the Barbican Bookshop in York, you might try there or at YAM for a copy. There’s a picture of the Bloodhounds at Breighton on realaero.com, albeit rather feint. Anyone interested in RAF Riccall (just down the A19 from Burn and 5 or 6 miles from Breighton) might also like to check out a newly published history of the village which has a section about the airfield with a few rare pix – available from the Selby Times I believe.

As someone else who lives in Yorkshire,I recently read Yorkshire Airfields in the Second World War by Patrick Otter, one of a multi series of books by Mr.Otter, about airfields around the country during wartime.
It details every airfield in Yorkshire, and what they got up to,but doesn’t really have a great deal of post war information, but does give some great accounts of raids flown from them.
It’s available from most bookshops for about £12 new,but if you have problems locating a copy, then I will part with mine, which is virtually new,for about half of that plus P&P.

I learned to fly Gliders at Burn a few years ago. Sadly I am at Uni now and don’t have access to my pictures but I can tell you that there is little left at Burn apart from the water tower and runways which are all present. There is a memorial and the odd building scattered around though.
May I recommend these web pages
