From a local paper/website:-
“A STREET in Cambourne recently named after a fighter-bomber surprised some residents.”…………….
……………….. who then go on to moan “Who wants to live in a road named after an annoying, insignificant flying pest?”
:confused::eek::rolleyes::D

It’s estimated that the insect variety of the Mosquito has killed around half of the people who have ever lived-hardly insignificant!

Sheffield Police HQ has got to be the best one, residing on Letsby Avenue.
Isn’t that where Delia Smith lives 😀

We have Portal Close and Trenchard Avenue opposite RAF Northolt, as well as Lysander Road, Beaufort Road and Blenheim Crescent on the former RAF West Ruislip.

completely non aviation related – for which I apologise – but the residents of the former Butt Hole Road in nearby Conisbrough have recently managed to change the name of their road to Archer Way.

Hatston industrial estate at Kirkwall in Orkney has Skua, Swordfish and Seafire road names. Rather good for the remains of the airfield where Skua’s took off from to attack the Koenigsburg…

On the subject of Police Stations, I used to live in St. Ives (no, not that one – the one in Cambridgeshire!) and if you take a look just north of the town centre, you’ll notice a road that starts off as Pig Lane, and then changes inexplicably to Broad Leas. The whole thing was called Pig Lane until they built a Police station half way along it!
It’s a shame that residents of Cambourne are not happy with Mosquito Road and that someone in the Council can’t spell!!

Winnie Mandela (born Nomzamo Winfreda Madikizela; 26 September 1936) is a South … on 13 April 1986, where she endorsed the practice of necklacing (burning people alive using tyres)
oh, nothing I guess.
I doubt the road was named after Winnie Mandela…..

The industrial estate which now uses the majority of the buildings of the old RAF Dumfries recently came under new management and renamed roads ‘after aircraft which flew from here during the war’. All jolly splendid and much praised in the local press. However rather than ask the aviation museum which they could hit with a stone from their office car park they plucked for Lancaster Way, Spitfire Road, Hurricane Lane etc – none of which regularly flew from Dumfries at all. Pure luck netted them Anson Avenue.

I used to work in a road called `Mandella Way` so think yourself lucky.
And what is wrong with that

The use of ‘aircrafts’ as the plural of aircraft seems to a growing trend….
I’d assume that just meant the apostrophe had been neglected, otherwise they should be taken outside and shot.
The only annoying pests I can think of are those who would complain about this. They’d probably complain about anything though.

And it’s bloody annoying. As is “definately” (urgh!!!) and “should of” etc, etc…

We’ve got a newish estate here in Worksop with
Beaufort Way, Blenheim Rise, Lerwick Close, Gibson Court, Bristol Mews, Lancaster Walk, Lysander Way, Anson Close, Stirling Close (spelt correctly), Mitchell Close and Halifax Drive.
The next block along is named after Generals and Field Marshals such as Wavell, Alexander, Stilwell and Fairfax. Further along the roads are named after RAF airfields such as
Scampton Road, Manston Way, Kenley Close, Coningsby Avenue, Abingdon View, Boscombe Road, Alconbury Way, Scofton Close, Winthorpe Road and Swinderby

Lets hope that the typo is only in the article and not on the road sign 😀
“Other roads in Upper Cambourne include Sterling Way, Lancaster Gate, Hurricane Way and De Havilland Close, which also keep in with the theme.”
…and de Havilland

Being fairly local to Cambourne we wrote to the Parish Council about the misspelling of Stirling but to no avail. Understandably I suppose the council didn’t want to spend money on new signage and the residents would have to change driving licences, letter headings etc.
A pity that they didn’t do their research before formally naming the road, but plenty of people (even in aviation circles) get it wrong.
I am sorry to hear that. I made the comment in jest thinking it was an error by those reporting.
Poor old Stirling, the type just never seems to get the recognition it deserves.

Maybe they’d prefer it to be called after another annoying, insignificant pest – Simon Cowell Way?….
