Imagine my horror when I saw this moments ago

Initial delivery to LTU as D-AMUR on 25th May 1984
Its just 20 years old and someone saw fit to scrap it…. perplexing.
There are older ones still flying.

here it is, in use a few months before

I’d imagine 20 years of pounding up and down heavily laden with as many tourists that could be jam-packed into would eat into the airframe life quite heavily, and the constant increases and decreases in pressure and temperature as the plane is constantly climbing and descending on short hops all the time would just worsen the effect,so it may be at the end of it’s metal fatigue life.

Or maybe I’m wrong…….I feel faint after posting that, better go lie down 😀

You sure don’t see very many scrapped 757’s.

I agree. Twenty years on heavy rotation between Spain and Northern Europe (predominantly Germany) must have taken its toll on the airframe.

Well no, LTU got rid of the 757s some years ago. AFAIK they were given to LTE (the spanish version of LTU), but due to the current crisis some were stored at PMI for years. I don´t know if it is one of those so.

Those aircraft are high-cycle machines, workhorse’s of the fleet. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were scrapped because of it!

Very sad indeed – Would love to know why its been scrapped, cant see it been in a bad state of repair with the airlines its flown with?

Love that nose close up BTW.
