Your favourite aircraft themed movie ?

What is your favourite movie associated with aircraft ? It can be civil or military.

Mine’s is ‘A Bridge Too Far’ the WW2 film about Operation Market Garden. Why do I like it…? well it’s got all of those C-47/DC-3’s in it for starters. I also love the ‘Airplane’ films because they are just “plane” daft and for all of those brilliant airplane continuity howlers.

What about you guys…?

Favorite movie has to be Twelve o’clock high.

Guilty pleasure is High road to China.

Favorite aviation scene is the d-day jump sequence in Band of brothers.

Of course Strategic air command is good too.:)

Dark Blue World, it’s an Anglo-Czech film about the Czech RAF pilots during WW2. It’s a flash back, basically a guy telling the story of his time in England as he is in prison in Prague in 1953. Great film!!!

my favourite(s) are Pandoras Clock starring Richard Dean Anderson, as a pilot of a passenger jet, carrying a guy who it is believed to be carrying a serious plague like virus. the aircraft is banned from landing in any european country, beacuse of the fear of the suspect virus spreading. anyway, the guy dies, and the aircraft eventually lands in Iceland. it goes on and on, and i haven’t the time or patience to tell you any more – it’ll ruin the story for you if you watch it

my other favourite is Pushing Tin. this shows the stresses and strains undertaken by Air traffic controllers. it is detailed in showing their work. a new, unconventional controller arrives, and a sort of confrontation results between the ruling controller and this new guy. it is comical, and fun. watch it when you can. its also got good graphics
i agree with MINIDOH and Super Guppy – brilliant films

thanks,
adam

My all time favourite aircraft movie is “Out of the Clouds” made in colour in the mid 50s it is set at Heathrow, or London Airport as they all called it in those days, and its filled with wonderful shots of BOAC Connies, Stratocruisers, BEA Viscounts, Elizabethans and numerous foreign airlines such as KLM Convairs and also Iberia and Finnair examples as well as Pan Am DC6s, I’d recommend it to anyone out there, I taped it from C4 several years back. The character played by James Robertson Justice as a crusty gruff old Stratocruiser Captain is brilliant. I also liked the original Airport movie, but I would really like to see the John Wayne classic of the Earnest Gann novel “The High and the Mighty” again one day, starring the man and a host of piston engined airliners but I understand that some problem with the Wayne estate is preventing its release on either video or DVD and is even keeping it from being shown on TV. Does anyone know more on that score?

I like Executive decision. Its a bit more realistic than other films with aircraft in. Like Air Force One for example, soooooo fake! Terrible. Executive decision also has a bit of fighting which is good 😀

I like ‘The Final Countdown’. The best bit is the dogfight between two F14s and two Zero replicas !
