There was a Spitfire known as “The Cat” by its pilots. No idea why, though. It was a Mark II and I’m sure there’s a pic in the books at home.

Merlin. certainly my favourite cat. Shoud have called him Spiteful though, the way he beats up other mogs and pounces on anything that moves that is smaller than a car.

And if you are wondering, yes he was named after the RR engine. Next one will be called Griffon. Mrs Merlin70 has already conceded.

what about hurri-cat (there was souch a thing, honest), lancatster, moggsqitto, seafurry, hawker tomkit and the dart kitten of course.;)

We once had a cat who, I kid you not, actually SOUNDED like an idling Merlin when he purred – just one, long, constant PRRRRRRRRRRRRR 😀

Although I haven’t met him/her, I know my favourite cat is likely to be Merlin!

Sad news from you, I doubt Grumman will ever build another fighter jet, unless this one is an UAV. The Tomcat is the last of that prestigious line, and about to get retired. No moree cats very soon, except as Warbirds..
