-Prague

RE: your favourite cities
Certainly Sankt Peterburg has to go at the top of the list. See below.
But Moscow is also very much improved, and Volgograd is a very interesting city. Very arid, but all over the city they have a network of above ground water irrigation pipes to keep the trees and grass alive. They have some of the nicest looking women around, and the local mustard is as hot as any pepper anywhere in the world – including the Thai bird chilis or the habaneros.

RE: your favourite cities
The ones i really liked:
Prague
Moscow
Istanbul
Barcelona
Tanger (loved the atmosphere there, even though i detest the hagglers)
London
Beijing (especially the attempt-to-teach-that-big-blond-guy-some-Mandarin)
Cities i did NOT like include…
Tallinn
Bucharest (no matter how much fun Romanians can be, that city is depressing!)
Belgrade (was there weeks after the Dayton treaty. Felt very uncanny).
There are plenty more i didn’t like, but i don’t this thread should evolve into the bashing of cities and towns like Craiova, Daugavpils, Kosice, Rtishchevo, Heythuysen or Gorlitz.
Regards,
Arthur

RE: your favourite cities
Well, I’m sitting beside my chair of amazement that quite a few of you guys mantioned Amsterdam as one of the top five of cities in the world. I think I’ve been there too much, two to tree times a week, to be objective ;-).
Well my list would be, no particular order;
– Cairo
– Florance
– KL
– Antwerp
– New York
quite a different list.
regards,
JW
And Barcalona of course. The destination of my byceling trip 🙂

RE: My candidates…
Now I`m really surprised!!!! I never thought anybody would vote for my home city in an article like that. Reykjavik is indeed a great city……but then again I`m biased! Hope you enjoyed it
Galdri 🙂 🙂 🙂

RE: My candidates…
Ja,
You’re right Rekljavik is gorgeous.
I’ve been there a month ago and that’s really a nice place. Imagine a such island with a population of only 300k people. It’s quiet , nice , people are nice , speak english. What a difference with Paris.
Don’t forget to swim in the hot spring natural pools : that’s unique!!!

My candidates…
Of the ones I’ve been to…
1. Vladivostok,Russia; I really loved the place, sad that it’s gone down hill.
2. Haifa, Israel; Such a wonderful experience and very interesting as well, I only hope that the problems there will never ruin the ancient history of this place.
3. Cape Town, South Africa; I have very fond memories of just sitting on the cliffs there and just watching life go by and memories rush into my head.
4.Bombay, India; no-one can ever be the same after a visit here, especially after walking down the streets as the women are preparing the evening meals for their families, the scent is awe inspiring. Same with Columbo, Sri Lanka.
5. Either Changi, Singapore or Lima, Peru I can’t decide which would come next, Changi is hot tropical terrain and full of WWII history, where as Lima is mountianous and can get quite cold, but I hold a special place in my heart for Lima, cause I took a close frind of mine there and scattered his ashes in the Andes (sorry, I’ll shut up now)
Of the places that I would like to go…
1. Reykjavic, Iceland; I’ve always held a longing to to to Iceland and fulfill the trek that Tom Clancey wrote about in his novel “RED STORM RISING”.
2. Christchurch, New Zealand; I’ve been all ovee the North Island and it’s time to see the South Island.
3. Brasilia, Brazil; especially during Mardi Gra, the festive season can be electrifying I’m told.
4. Cairo, Egypt; I’ve been to Alexandria and to the worlds largest out-door market, the people there were wonderful, so I’d like to see Cairo now.
5. West Africa; I love Africa and I’ve been all over the eastern and southern sections of this land, so I’d like to see the western sections.
Leave no-one behind!

RE: your favourite cities
Moscow sounds fantastic. People who have lived there for a few years tell me that Moscow and St. Petersburg are both real treasures. I will definitely spend a few days in the Hermitage before I die, maybe together with a river cruise.
My only concern is the level of crime?

RE: your favourite cities
Madrid, I go there around 6 times a year, and I have a lot of friends living in Madrid
Tucson/Arizona, I like the desert, and there are a lot of aircraft around there
Malta, not a city but so small that this can be included (in my opinion).
In general, I like places where the sun is shining, and palmtrees are growing
