What’s the most unusual aircraft type that visit’s your local airport ? A one off, a once a week regular ? What is it ?
At GLA this summer there’s been a short spell of European 747’s doing the charters, Also the Balkan Tu-154 is not a common sight.
How about your place ?

At BHX there is the odd Tu-154 from BH Air, and a few weeks ago a couple of B747s which is unusual for BHX because the biggest model ther is usually a B767 or an A330:D

We occasionally get a private 747SP that is owned by some Prince that flies into CLE to come to the hospital here. I have yet to get a picture of it. I did once try to walk up to the closest fence to get a better look but was chased away by the police. I WAS on the other side of the fence which was a public area. Oh well, I don’t argue with people with guns.

Actually I seem to recall a Galaxy flypast at GLA in the 80’s too. There was also a flypast of the Nasa 747 carrying the Space Shuttle enroute back from the Paris Airshow.

We did have a c5 galaxy pass through once in the 80’s at manchester. In the 70’s vulcans used to land there too (iknow it isnt airliners but it is unusual), but, in 1991 we had a north korean IL86 i think it was a government one.

At Brisbane International Airport it would be the Airbus A300-600ST Beluga and the Antonov An-124, im not sure about Archerfield Airport though!

Into Farnborough recently we have had a Privatair 737BBJ, and Multiflights BBJ has been doing demo flights all week, along side all the Dubai BBJ’s and their 319CJ. We had a German Air Force (Starlifter? Something like that) in recently too.

Strike Eagle, yes the Balkan Tu-154 is a regular at Stansted. I have never seen it arrive, but all the times I have seen it, it has been departing at around 5:30. I have seen it about 4 times over the summer, very interesting to watch. I’m not sure about whether it will be operating in the winter though.

Were you at Lossie when the Canadian Hornets passed through? There was abut 12 a couple of months back and 2 last week.
By: bartboy - 10th September 2003 at 17:46
Not strictly an airport but at RAF Lossiemouth today we had two Swedish Air Force Gripens serial no 133 and 134 .Very rare for us. Regards Bartboy.

wannabe pilot – do you know if the Balkan Holidays TU-154 is regular at STN? Saw one depart when I was there on Sunday evening.
By: kev35 - 10th September 2003 at 17:33
At BHX I suppose the most unusual regular is a Turkmenistan 757. Most unusual for me lately was a CASA CN235 of the Irish Air Corps.
If we can include sights we saw on the MAN meet it would have to be…… Fizz’s Grandma. 😀

Here at Stansted we get a few unusual visitors. As LN Strike Eagle mentioned, and as was also displayed in Airliner World a couple of months ago, we have recently had the An-22. An-124’s are also fairly common here, but not as common as they used to be (they take too long on the runway for an expanding airport like Stansted). Quite often we have the Dubai Air Wing 747 SP’s in and so far this year, I have seen 5 Saudi aircraft there: 2 MD-11’s, 2 SP’s and a Hercules.
