A mother and father with an incredible 14 kids who prove Britain’s benefits system has gone bonkers, showering them with a whopping tax-free £36,847 (US$58,815) a year in handouts.
Pregnant Dawn and Sean Cain’s huge family, aged 21 years to 19 months, have just enjoyed a very merry Christmas, with every mouthful of their turkey dinner, and every present stuffed under their tree, paid for by taxpayers.
To match their breathtaking haul from the public purse Sean would have to clinch a job paying a gross salary of £51,500 ($82,200). Britain’s average salary is just £21,320 ($34,000).
And although he is able, he’s definitely not willing.
He and wife Dawn admit their New Year’s resolution is never to find work, because no job they’d get in Britain’s recession-hit economy will come close to paying the same.
Sean hasn’t lifted a finger since 2003 when he took time off to help Dawn handle a problem with the kids. He soon realised he was better off on benefits and has stayed home ever since.
“With the social giving us £700 (US$1,100) a week why should I work for anything less? There’s no point me even trying to look for a job. I’ve got a family of 15 to support,” he said.
“People could call us scroungers, but what would they do in the same situation?”
And unlike most of Britain’s workforce they’re in for a payrise, as Dawn expects child number 15 in April.
The 20-a-day smoker, who has never worked since she became a mother at the age of 18, said, “People expect us to be scruffy and dirty because we’re such a big family, but we’re not.
“I look after my kids well and make sure we get by. And every Christmas I make sure they get everything they want.”
This year, those taxpayer-funded gifts totalled £2,000 ($3,200) and included mobile phones, bikes, scooters, a camcorder, hair straighteners and a Wii games console.

Bumblebee’s post clearly sums up exactly where have come in the last 12 years.
The entire Social Security/Tax Credit system needs to be overhauled. If Blair had stayed loyal to Frank Field 7 or 8 years ago things might not have reached this parlous state.

My daughter will leave university this summer with some £15,000 worth of debts to pay off if/when she gets a decent job.
Her schoolfriend, the same age as her,has never worked or paid taxes. She fell pregnant by the man from the kebab shop ( oh the romance of it ),but they are no longer together.
Now she’s enjoying a brand-new two bedroomed flat and I often see her around town shopping for nice stuff for her and her son,all courtesy of my and Mr. Bee’s taxes.
She’s a nice enough girl, but there’s certainly no motivation for her to get a job.As she told my daughter, the easiest way for her to increase her income is to have another baby.
It’s a rum old world,isn’t it ?

Let’s see, the more kids you have, the more money you get.
It’s like getting paid to…(insert your own phrase).
I remember the old days when one had to be a “working girl”, hire boy, or gigolo to get money for doing that. 😀
They’ll keep on having kids because at 18 years following the birth of their last spawn, they’ll have to get a job.
Of couse by then, they’ll be ready for retirement.:D
Pity about one wasting his life like that…contributing nothing to society while taking plenty.
They out to be ashamed…but probably are too stupid to be.

Why is it that people with a perfectly legitimate reason for benefits have them cut the moment their condition improves by 1 %, yet those who are clearly on the take are immune?
A Family friend’s daughter has a heart condition which sees her have good times and bad times. She had an op and her condition improved slightly but the doctors say she is not healed and will never bever, she cannot exert herself too much and people with her condition rarely make it past their 30s.
And what do the benefits agency do as soon as she has improved slightly? Cut her benefit alltogether, which invalidates the families claim for mobility, loosing them their mobility car. The girl can maybe walk half a mile unaided a day, but thats it.
Her parents both work and struggle.
Meanwhile when I go to Asdas, I see mercedes, 4x4s and bmws parked in the disabled spots, all with mobility stickers on them and I see their drivers and passenger hop out and walk effortlessly around the shop with a heaver trolley or shopping baskets. I’ve also seen them returning to their cars, each member carring several shopping bags.

We always say that. Let’s give the other lot a chance they can’t be any worse then when they get in they immediately prove that they can.
Well, not necessarily, but have you got a better idea? I would have thought that the last 12 years disproves your contention, anyway.

Thanks for reminding us, Steve. Our only hope is that no later than next June the miserable shower who have brought us to this ghastly pass, will be kicked out and replaced by something better – nothing could be worse, that’s for sure!

At least they are actually GENUINE.
These kids do exist etc. It’s the Social/dole fiddlers that should be boiling your urine, not the mis-educated pikey with a womb like a production line.
More Social money is lost to the criminal activity than is paid out to “Lazy” parents.

Lovely looks as if the system is working well for someone for once it should however be restructured so if you have over 2-3 children and it starts penalizing the claimant. If you work and support your own children then fine if you have lots of children for the handouts you should not be helped.
Sounds more reasonable – although I wouldn’t put a penalty on folks wanting to have more children – as long as they are working. Some folks really do see children as a blessing, and as many other folks aren’t having them, it’s good to see some are. Some of the best families I know of have 6-10 children and are a real joy to be around. However, if you don’t work, you shouldn’t eat, either. So this is disgusting.

Wrong on so many levels. China are sensible enough to limit the number of children couples can have (fair enough, that’s for population limitation), but the UK can be far too generous some times.
By: Nashio966 - 27th December 2009 at 23:35
yes they should be made to work, and here is a classic example of having children for the sake of money!
these people should be sterylised! 😡
By: Future Pilot - 27th December 2009 at 23:34
They should be MADE to work, simple as.
Waste of oxygen these people.
