Lets hear tales of your worst flight in aspect of turbulence etc, not inflight service, cabin crew and all.

RE: Your worst flight……
Oh guys, I had forgotten a real risky one. Landing over here tends to be rough due to atlantic winds and gusts (usually gales). It was an Spanair MD83 from Madrid. Regular flight and landing on a stormy day. Approached in middle of heavy turbulences, and as we were seeing the forest, it literally collapsed and dropped…..as a huge and big air pocket. It seems that we were impacting against the trees. More power and go up and then down again against the tarmac. Big bump and violent touchdown, the lights went off and the rack opened….ufff. As we were leaving the plane I heard the pilot saying to another pilot in the cocpit….it was a windsheer, a windsheer. His face was pale. I knew what that meant.

Just as landing in Galicia in winter time 🙂

RE: Your worst flight……
A KLM flight with a B737, from Amsterdam to Madrid. Turbulences during the flight and a very waved landing in Madrid. The pilot said it was too windy…

RE: Your worst flight……
Not sure if this strictly counts:
About a decade ago, when the BAE ATP first started being a regular fixture, a few of them had dodgy landings, usually involving the nose gear collapsing on landing. I saw that happen once, in the Isle of Man.
I have flown on these aircraft many, many times since and no problems whatsoever (other than coffee on the lap or stingy legroom!)

RE: Your worst flight……
To set the scene, a Monarch 737 (no disrespect to this great aircraft, full disrespect meant for this pointless idiotic….. airline). The food was horrible, the staff were ignorant and the food was disgusting. I hope Monarch go out of business, especially with the operation of Airbus aircraft, one less Airbus is a joy to the world.

RE: Your worst flight……
I don’t know. It was certainly very exciting though, but for others it seemed to be the end of the world!

T5,
Was it a high cross wind condition ?

RE: Your worst flight……
Earlier this year on a BA A319, the aircraft was still turning as it touched down. Obviously it wasn’t lined up properly for landing and we touched down on the rear right hand landing gear, followed by the left. It wasn’t a fraction of a second before the left wheel touched down, more like 2 or 3 and it was hell. I’m unsure just how close the right wing was to “bashing” onto the runway!

RE: Your worst flight……
I was on the flight, but I don’t remember it as I was very young and slept through the entire thing. Only details from what my parents have told me.
We were on a Britannia 767-200 from Malta to Luton when we hit an air pocket. The plane just fell, don’t know how much, but as they were just serving diner it wasn’t nice. Drinks went everywhere and one of the stewardesses was burnt from the trolley. The pilot never made one announcement about what had happened at all.
This was perhaps middle 80’s and I was only a few years old and slept through it all so I can’t remember any of it myself, but it sounded bad.

RE: Your worst flight……
It has to be the return flight from Jobug to Paris. It was with Air France on a A340. The cabin crew were rubbish. Hardley spoke any English. The seat belt light was hardley ever off as the plane was getting thrown about the place for most of the night. Worst turbulance I have ever experienced.

RE: Your worst flight……
Heres mine,
In January….Alliance Air(subsidary IA), B737-200 from Bhopal(city in central India) to ND. took off in a thick haze and then had the worst flight i have encountered. The turbulence was extremly bad, and over that it was a 20 year old a/c so, not a good combination.
My father encountered his worst flight in 1988 while doing Del-Moscow. Il 62 took of from Delhi, hit hard turbulence, 4 ppl onboard actually fainted and the a/c made an emergence landing in Tashkent.

RE: Your worst flight……
Quite right! Must be a control-freak phenomenon then…

RE: Your worst flight……
Yes Ben ,
I remember this. It was a flight from AMS to Narita.
I was in Tokyo at this time waiting for this plane to flight back home.
We were informed that our flight was delayed beacause of a late flight.
When we saw the people arriving , it was obvious that something bad happened. Speaking with some passenger it seems that they flew through volcano ashes above alaska and the 4 engines died.
As far as I remember , they loss 9000 feet before the captain was able to start the engine on again.
No need to tell that our flight was delayed again for engine inspection at Narita. I was glad to be on the ground this day

RE: Your worst flight……
my major concern was trying to read my book actually.
the pilot and tech crew would not be there if they didnt know how to do the job so there is no need to worry.

RE: Your worst flight……
Must feel strange though.
If I were a pilot, it would make me a bit of a control freak – ie. turbulence would be OK as long as its me at the controls but not as a passenger.

RE: Your worst flight……
A Singapore Airlines flight from singapore to perth in dec 2000,not often that i am a passenger on another airline but i was on this day and the north of Australia was being hit by a savage cyclone. We were buffetted around for 3 hours and meal service came about 1 and half hours prior to landing.Doesnt worry me that much but my partner was a bit on edge.

RE: Your worst flight……
Wasn’t there somthing posted on people’s bad flights fairly recently????
I saw savage planet (ITV1) last night and there looked to be some horrible flights on there. A KLM 747 in a dive after the engines choked on volcanic ash over anchorage. It was dropping without power…the usual vomet flying around the cabin…bit nasty. Anybody else cath that? (the programme…not the vomet!)
Regards
Ben

RE: Your worst flight……
This was around 4 years ago when I was just getting interested in aviation.I asked my parents if we could travel with Aurigny (via Alderney)to Southampton rather than with KLM UK.Eager to encourage my iterest in aircraft they said yes not knowing that the flight was on a Trislander!
The 15 minute hop from GCI-ACI was alright though the bad thing was that we had another 40 minutes on the aircraft to SOU.No inflight service,1 pilot, small aircraft which was noisy and a bit of turbulance lead to one heck of a bad flight.Never again!I will travel British European to SOU.

RE: Your worst flight……
an Antonov 26 flight from Havana to Santiago de Cuba in the middle of a tropical storm. No windows on the plane…it was terrible. I couldn´t see outside. As the aricraft was descending, I didn´t know if we were approaching to the runway or falling to the sea. Never again.

RE: Your worst flight……
Well, my latest flight to Jo’Burg was probably the worst ever when it came to turbulences, though I don’t care about it. Actually I like it, it’s a change for a while.
