Does the Hawk LIFT used by the SAAF have an uprated motor? I read somewhere that it is the most powerful Hawk flying. Also, I notice that the ATAR 9K50 powering the Chhetah C is a very clean engine with very little if any smoke trail. Is this because of weather conditions? Yersterday the Cheetah’s were creating visible vortices whilst manauevering, yet today it is warmer and no vortices are visible. Yet the engine is basically smokeless, especially compared to the Spey powered buccaneer and Avon powered Lightning. Yet it is a much older engine design. Was this always the case?
