Hi everyone
I recently treated myself to one of the above scanners—I already have a Maycom AR 108 and a fixed EXTREMELY CLEAR Signal corpn one indoors.
When we went to LGW on Tues, thought that we would try out the new one– was very disappointed with the signal strength as it was poorer than the Maycom, despite it being at least twice its price!!!
Anyone help me here on this please–anyone else got one of these?
The reception should have been good as we were right at the end of the runway with the tower freq at LGW on the scanner.i HAD CHARGED THE BATTERIES THAT WERE SUPPLIED WITH IT!!
Apart from the crappy reception of this scanner–did enjoy watching the planes for 2 hours!
Must ask as well what you all recommend as cameras to take some nice pics like I see on here–does it have to be a digital one???
Thanks

Thanks Guys!
Graham NCL—what a silly billy I am—I had it on FM–LGW Approach is bellowing out as clear as anything now in the house!
Think I have a lot to learn about this scanner!!
Thanks also Stars and Sids!
My other half said that I was problably doing something stupid with it–he was right! The Maycom and the Signal one are so easy to use!
Thanks again–will be off to LGW again soon to try it out!!!!!!!!

I have had a 7100 for about 2 months now (bought second hand). – the guy that sold it to me showed me a trick with the arial connector to boost the signal. This works with all 3 of my antenna.
When the antenna is fitted on to the scanner, twist it back very slightly, as though you were taking it off again. Turn it slightly, until it begins to feel a bit tight. If you do this while receiving a transmission, you will see the signal strength bar jump up appreciably. To me, this is a fault on my set, but it does the same on my mates, so i dont know if it is just a few sets, or all of them.
I also had a Maycom, and that outperformed the Yupi, until i started using this trick, and now the range of the Yupi is so good, i can get Doncaster tower transmissions from my house, about 10 miles away, which is even better than my faithful old realistic pro 63 scanner.

The Yupi 7100 is a fantastic scanner, especially for airband, so i can only guess that either it has a fault, or the stock antenna is no good. I’ve used mine with a simple standard gain multiband ‘rubber’ antenna whilst at airports, and a larger higher-gain version of the same elsewhere for years, and its been absolutely great. At the end of the runway as you were, though, i’d have expected everything to boom in even on the stock antenna, so something sounds wrong. Obvious but worth checking, were you in AM and on precisely the correct frequency (the 7100 doesnt have 8.33 spacing so you may need to drop it to 1khz spacing and track down the best actual frequency in use). Also check you didnt have the attenuator switched in. Good luck, keep us informed

Hi,
I was using the aerial that was supplied in the box with the scanner.
Thanks a lot!

What aerial were you using with it?
