Below is a picture of a “Z” receiver bracket fitted to the FN121 tail turret.
Does anyone have any pictures of a “Z” receiver? It’s purpose?
Hoes does it work with the AGLT equipment?

Two `Z` recievers sold on ebay about two years ago for £14 (the pair) no one knew what they were. !!

TB – It would be right for our D type turret – hmmm AGLT …..IIRC this was an infra red IFF/ gun laying system – whereby friendly aircraft would emit an IR light which would be picked up by the AGLT receiver in the rear turret (the IFF bit) and recognised as friendly – the IR/radar element being used to track, range and target unfriendly aircraft again IIRC the system failed as weather confused it… ?
Anyway, we have some AGLT pics of the inside of the turret – will see if I can find them – they are from an old Airlife book on the Halifax – may show the Z receiver
otherwise have a good google!

Wasn’t the “Z” equipment an Infra Red system for IFF purposes? Lancs often had two circular components for it on the bomb aimer’s blister.
Presumably the system worked something along the lines of the circular components on the nose were IR lamps, and the receiver on the turret would be able to see those lamps, and therefore ID the aircraft as friendly.

The “Z” receiver is mounted in the “Z” receiver bracket to the left of the GGS on the gunsight arm, the AGLT collimator is mounted on the right side.

Mike could it be the mount that the radar blister hung from from the base of the turret?
