Reported today in PPRUNE:
Monarch Scheduled is reported to be starting something very strange. Are you ready for this…..
LONDON GATWICK to ABERDEEN!
I have no idea how this fits in their business plan and if it would even work??
More information is due tomorrow.

Good news for ABX I suppose. LBARules that picture of Hertz is out of date now as Im pleased to inform you that it has had its yellow nose put back on.
Yes but it had a white nose when I flew it ;).

Yes, HUY would have been a perfect airport for a Malaga route 3 or 4 times a week

Very interesting, cracking news for all airports, does seem rather strange though.
Blackpool is now on the up, with the Ryanair flights to DUB,GRO and STN as well as this one.
Seems HUY has been left out again unfortunately..

Newquay? Seems to be a rather up and coming airport. Ryanair also operate flights from here don’t they?
What other airlines use Newquay? Air Southwest?

Looks like you’ll all have to wait until tomorrow to find out what is really going to happen! 😉
I think Mr Jeans is making the announcement at 9am.
By the way, the A320s will all be 174y configuration for this coming winter to make way for additional extra legroom seats on the ZB flights.

Surely none of the routes to be announced wth be more than 3 or 4 times a week? Could see ALC, AGP, TFS, PMI, BCN working from ABZ
By: by738 - 19th July 2005 at 20:22
Cant see demand for daily 180 seat flights from ABZ, when there are limited routes even during the peak summer. Limited routes for a reason…as demand is not great.
Monarch are not stupid tho and so I would imagine they would do some market research first. GSM will not be happy if they were planning some routes from ABZ.
I await with interest the formal announcement, and how long any potential routes last.
By: LBARULES - 19th July 2005 at 19:36
That sounds more like it ;).
ZB into ABZ would be interesting, I think there is definitly a market for such flights from ABZ, apparantly FlyGlobespan are due to be starting flights from there as well.

I think you misread the post ZB507. It looks like Monarch Scheduled may be starting routes from Aberdeen to the continent, not Gatwick.
The Gatwick mention was just a joke if you re-read the full post again.
By: LBARULES - 19th July 2005 at 19:24
Does seem incredibly strange though, they currently operate no domestic routes, and would they really be a demand for an A320 (at the smallest), on LGW-ABZ especially with the competing BA flights?
Cant see it happening personally.

Not a bad idea. The only option at the moment from Gatwick is British Airways, so this is likely to be a cheaper alternative.
