Zhukovsky, 12 August

Continuing my Moscow threads with Zhukovsky. The Russians celebrated their 100th birhday in style. While you might think not much civilian planes can be seen at a military airport, you’d be surprised how many (semi-)civilian planes are parked / stored / dumped here. I have included a few air force transport planes.

My website has a lot more photos including fighters, bombers and helicopters.

This Yak-40 is stored at Bykovo, the airport next to Zhukovsky where we had to park the bus.

Seen from the shuttle bus going from Bykovo to Zhukovsky.

Does this count as a civilian transport… no? Tough. It’s one of only two photos I got that are not back lit (excl. static).

There are several Tu-204s stored here.

Quite a shame that this one was not moved closer to the display line.

Or this one. In one day I doubled the number of Tu-144s in my logbook. Nice!

Some amazing shots! And that ‘Bear’ what a sight. I’ve always thought it a little odd, that in these post Soviet days, the Russian Air Force still uses the red star as its insignia. Still, a ‘Bear’ just wouldn’t be the same without one would it;)
