Zoom Airlines to triple fleet for long-haul flights

ZOOM AIRLINES, the Canadian-based airline founded by the Scots millionaire travel entrepreneurs John and Hugh Boyle, is set to almost triple its fleet as the company expands its low-cost long-haul service across the Atlantic.

The airline, which flies three long-distance widebody Boeing 767s between Britain and Canada, will take delivery of a fourth aircraft later this year and a fifth next summer. Zoom, which has carried 125,000 passengers on turnover of CAN$105m (£48.6m) in only its second season, is aiming for a fleet of eight aircraft over the next two to three years.

The Boyles, who made £53m with the sale of Glasgow-based Direct Holidays in 1998, are likely to consider eventually floating the airline once it is fully developed.
