I can see a US purchase being in the running, similar to the FMS purchase of artillary
X2
All I can say is, they’ve shown their true colours of what they think of the rest of the world and they’re certainly not my favourite people at the moment. Feel sorry for the genuine Yanks out there.
If they go for a US aircraft, silly if they do IMO, then the politicians would’ve chosen it for political reasons and not technical, performance etc reasons. If the likes of the Rafale and Typhoon are in this competition, as we know of course that they are, then it’s a no-brainer to go for one of those, better choice especially in the long run.
The only “US thing” in the Typhoon IIRC, is the GPS. So I think the Typhoon is quite safe, if not, well, the US can go fu……Away. I think the US threw a hissy fit when the Typhoon was being negotiated between the UK and Saudi Arabia. Needless to say they got nowhere.
Well one of the earlier leaks was a cable from the US embasy in brazil and it was basically saying how they were trying to get Brazil to go for a US fighter for the F-X competition.
However it seems India has had its own little version of wikileaks wont go into details as it could get political but would not expect the current government to be that resistent to persuation shall we say…
The above discussions about IAF strike into Chinese territory but for my understanding I would like to know how far into Chinese territory people are talking off and carrying what sorts of bombs?
I think you have to keep a clear distinction between fighters and strike aircraft when you discuss wing loadings. Strike aircraft you could argue would do better with the higher wing loading when flying low, allowing them to cope with gusts and thermals better.
Only F-16 I can see being competitive in this competition is the F-16XL or a modified F-16 that can be used as a UCAV or target drone
You can almost imagine a tussle going on in India with some research people wanting to do an India only MCA aircraft and asking the government about why they would do the parternship and other members saying the parternership is good.
Not that anyone here would know what is really happening.
Its good that Russia continue indepedently with the T-50 its good for Russia and Good for India as when the delays kick in (and lets face it with India the FGFA will be delayed) atleast India will have the option of buying an off the shelf Fifth gen PakFa.
Well, I don’t think you realize but you are making the case for the Super Hornet. Which, is to says it’s the most mature and upgrades are guaranteed via the US Government (i.e.USN). On the otherhand the Typhoon, Gripen NG, and Typhoon. Have struggled trying to get the resources needed to Upgrade and Intergrade New Weapons into them.
Let’s also not forget that the Super Hornet is also available in the Extremely Capable Electronic Warfare Variant. (i.e. Growler)
There are no indications that India would get the Growler, an aircraft that at the moment seems to be the heart of the USN electronic warfare and SEAD missions, it would be a high risk high exposure.
It also all depends on India signing the coms agreement.
The SuperHornet is not the best aircraft for the IAF, India and IAF does not need a strike platform like the SuperHornet.
If the IAF want to try suicidal missions then the best chances for them striking deap into northern territories would be with something like the Typhoon.
So how would you make life easier by having your one and only SSBN based near the COCO islands, ports being built in Bangladesh by China, and to the right covered by ports being built in Burma?
Also by obfuscate obfuscate and obfuscate I was talking about what you must do to win with a submarine. That is the whole point, is it not that makes a sub so lethal? The fact that people do not know where it is and where it will fire from? Again it is all about the shell game. Dont let your enemy know under which shell your pea is.
By basing your only nuclear submarine in the bay of bengal surrounded by listening posts and other ports and possibly hostile governments you have just allowed me to know where your main deterence for first strike is. I know the geographic location of your water based nuclear deterent and I am about to send my ASW aircraft in that region.
So if you could why wouldnt you want your nuclear submarine in the arabian sea?
Bit short site isn’t it? Why go through all that trouble to build a nuclear submarine only to have it based located in the bay of Bengal? Are you defending such a strategy because IN yet doesn’t have long legged slbm?
You I can’t call ignorant, you seem to know something. By the way calling someone else ignorant doesn’t automatically make you wise, just points to your constraint world view.
Lower RCS, better radar, better ESM, better agility, higher speed, better sensor fusion, etc…
The f-22 is better than most things around however dont understand the claims its not a revolution.
also all the other things you quoted above can not be disagreed about but how much better is all of it?
Is it 2 times better? or something completely different?
and I would say that it is the former rather than the later…
Not all sensor fusion is the same though, and then you have to look at the sensors themselves. Then add the advantages of VLO and raw performance(for the F-22), and the network they have at their disposal.
I still dont see where the sudden revolution comes in, SAAB and Gripen were touting WAN TCI/IP based connections from near the very start.
Also the Su-30MKI has had IRST and RADAR fusion from a long time now, the only difference I see is VLO and I do not see how that suddenly obviates the need for AWACS.
it is a evolution but a revolution it is not. You will still need AWACs, you will still be worried about enemy air defences and you will still be worried about enemy aircraft.
Good question, but equally if you could deploy from the arabian sea why wouldnt you?
Obfuscate, obfuscate and once again obfuscate
I guess we will have to wait another 20 years to know what is in a F-22 exactly… But from what is just published in that report I do not see how the F-22 is going to so significantly change modern combat.
Sensor fusion has been around in other aircraft and data linking between aircraft has also been around (thinking of the Sweedish Gripen more and Su-30MKI’s less)…
Dont get what this suddent shift is, its more of an evolution then a revalotuion.
Don’t know much more, have heard that Indian industry or scientists have not been given time of day sometimes purely down to non technical reasons. Also would say that LCA due to its length and cost over run now needs a financial and technical independent review.
Did not know EADS was this desperate.
The above point about fleet numbers being cut is very valid, but also giving technical drawings does not make the desperate more savy. drawing alone won’t allow HAl to go off and make the efa.
