So what are you saying? Since US elections are comming Bush asked putin for a favour and he flew a Bear over the carrier?
I guess the antiquated Tu-95’s are still useful. Why the fuss, this is not the first time is it?
What evidence have all the cavour proponents bought? Heck with the rubbish quoted like a bigger cavour would not require redesign to “it will cost the same” ? In my arguments I have even given you the benefit of assuming Cavour to have no operating cost. Fact remains at $ 1.2 bil gorky is an excellent deal. A bigger cavour only makes sense if built in India, else not worth it.
130-150 mil per year for vik is certainly inflated. Its not going to be more than $ 100 mil. It doesn’t matter if Nimitz costs more to run I had anyway put cavours operating cost at 0, anything more only weakens the cavour. The site replaced and with or, it should be 8 harriers and 12 helis. Thats 20 not 24 that was quoted while Baku carried 30 without any modifications. No matter what spin you try cavour is a over priced mediocre product.
Yes I agree IN should have ordered IAC earlier but if we are going for things in the past they should also have negotiated the gorky deal better and russians should have had the ship inspected by competent managers.
So basically you have no idea what IAC built in Italy would cost. The gorky with 80 % of its machinery changed is not going to be inefficient or unreliable. The IN had the choice of going for a cavour sized carrier but rejected it out-right. Why should India have it built in poland or any other god forsaken european country when IAC is being built in India?? Irrespective of what other navies might want IN rejected the idea of a cavour sized carrier a long time ago.

The ship can support eight VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft such as AV-8B Harrier or F-35 joint strike fighter VTOL variant, or 12 helicopters, such as the EH101, NH 90 or SH-3D, or a mix of platforms.
How is this pathetic lift capability same as gorky’s? Heck even the BAku could carry 30 aircrafts while still having all its missiles.
LCA opted for GE engine because RD-33 is too big for it. The IJT first had french larzac but opted for Al-55I. Looking at LCA program its clear opting for an american engine was a mistake. In IAF Mig-29 was the premier air defence fighter not Mirage, but Mirage is an excellent multirole fighter.
Please instead of guessing why don’t you ask them how much one would cost. ADS is not simply scaling up the cavour. It would require redesign and a cost of $3 bil is not unreasonable if built in europe. Heck for the sake of argument lets say 2.5-2.6 bil for a new built one. Even then to catch up with the cost of a new ADS from Italy it would take 26-28 years. Why don’t you just accept it that at $ 1.2 bil the gorky with 80 % of its parts replaced with new ones is a steal compared to anything europe can offer.:diablo:
Let’s see you can have modern state of the art Carrier equipped with F-35’s or a old rusty conversion of a Missile Cruiser equipped with Mig-29’s? Respectfully, I think your the one dreaming……….
State of the art 😀 😀 . Its a piddly little STOVL carrier which IN would never have accepted. Of course it will be cheaper to operate but so will the ADS (Call it Cavour-XL). But the cost of anything like ADS from Italy would exceed any benefits of lesser operating cost. Something poor SeaL and you have been desperately trying to cover up.
The cost of operating the NImitz is about $ 160 mil per year. The cost of operating gorky is going to be nowhere around that figure. I would venture about say $ 50 mil per year. Even assuming a zero operating cost for a larger Cavour built in Italy at the cost of $ 3-3.2 bil, the price difference can only be made up in 40 years. The gorky is meant to serve another 25 years (by then ADS-2 and 3 should have come) So unless cavour comes at $ 0 operating cost you are the one who is smoking the good stuff.
Not sure of distribution but 75 in service currently and 159 ordered recently. The total numbers would probably exceed 400 or 500 since quiet a few Chetaks will have to be replaced. Of the new order 115 is for IA and 45 for IAF.
The much smaller Cavour will be much more capable than the ex-Gorshkov any day of the week. It will also cost vastly less to operate! Clearly, India has taken the long road…………..:(
Only in your dreams buddy..only in your dreams.:D
Bull ****. No one has pointed out anything. Given the same set of A/c’s cavour lags in every respect.
True, the operative word being comparative displacement like the IAC certainly not the cavour.
No, Intercept it before it crosses into the air space. I would have assumed Japan has enough awacs to maintain constant surveillance.
Which part of “Twenty four warplanes — F-15 fighters and AWACS detection aircraft were scrambled from the Japanese air bases of Hyakuri and Hamamatsu to intercept the plane.” went over your head?
So the Air defence and surveillance was so great that they couldn’t prevent violation of airspace by a 50’s vintage turbo prop?
And they still couldn’t catch it? How many awacs does Japan have? They should have been able to intercept such a large plane before it entered their airspace.
