IAF only expects its version by 2017-18. Russia is certainly not short on cash thanks to oil prices.

France Loses Out as Saudis Sign $2.2 Billion Deal for Russian Helos

    (Source: defense-aerospace.com; published Oct. 30, 2007)

    By Giovanni de Briganti

PARIS — In an abrupt policy shift, Saudi Arabia has signed an agreement to buy over 150 Russian-made Mi-35 Hind and Mi-17 Hip helicopters worth over $2.2 billion, ending French hopes of sealing a long-delayed sale of 148 helicopters and raising doubts about future French arms sales to the Saudi kingdom.

Sources say the Memorandum of Understanding with Russia was signed in Ryad in mid-September by members of the private cabinet of Saudi King Abdallah bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud, and follows extended visits to Russia by Saudi military delegations in February and March 2007 to appraise the capabilities of Russian helicopters and other weapons.

The sources also said that Saudi Arabia appears to have decided to buy T-90 main battle tanks and medium-range air-defense systems from Russia, replacing previous plans to buy French-made Leclerc tanks and Aster 30 SAMP/T air-defense systems. No agreement has yet been signed for these systems, however,

Eurocopter confirmed that Saudi Arabia has opted for Russian helicopters, but said the company’s future prospects in the country remained unclear. Nexter, manufacturer of the Leclerc tank, and missile maker MBDA had no comment on the status of their dealings with Saudi Arabia.

LCH is not 10 tonne helicopter it will be in 6 tonne class same as Dhruv, only tandem seating and designed as attack heli. The 10 tonne heli will be a seperate project to replace Mi-17’s eventually.

Wishful thinking. Specs of J-10 haven’t been released yet.

The wishful thinking is on your part. chinese products haven’t inspired much confidence from its users. They are great for low cost.

Su-30MK it too obsolete for Iran to spend money in long term. J-10 does not stand a chance on technical merits.

Obsolete in what sense? It is more modern than anything they operate currently. It is also better than anything china can offer. If russia is willing to sell Su-30 why not Su-35? It would be ideal to replace the F-14’s. Add a few Mig-29M/35’s and you have a pretty decent high low mixture. Additional F-5 supplement or JF-17’s can make up numbers.

I would be surprised if Iran buys J-10 before it is even offered to pakistan. Anyway since the report has been denied lets just wait and watch.

They did build the kuz and I am sure they can convert the gorky into a full fledged A/C. Its the underestimation of work by both the shipyard and the naval officers that is the root cause of the problem.Anyway there seems to be no new news about gorky.

Dream on. Do you think that Tommy Hilfiger is made in Chicago? Or that Ralph Lauren uses textil from Ohio? Or that the pair of expensive Nikes you are wearing were completed in California using components from Wisconsin?

You cannot stop China purely by saying *we purchase nothing from you* more than Europe could stop US by saying the same. You are dealing with an emerging superpower here, don’t be naieve.

Patent Rubbish !!. Textiles is chinas trump card?? Phah emerging superpower  . Textiles also come in abundance from India, pakistan and bangladesh. To think that US would let korea be attacked for Tommy Hilfiger, you must be high on “high quality” chinese stuff.

Nope but you sure are, or atleast smoking something good. This thread is turning into a wet dream fantasy for mediocre chinese weaponry. 😀 . Cheap goods just happen to be the truth but won’t stop US from intervening if korea is threatened.
