What if the Russians want to keep the ship for themselves? I’ve read a lot of India-bashing in the Russian press lately about that project… Like “in effect, they haven’t paid a single penny for it” or “it would be quite ok for Russia to fund it by itself and return her to Navy service…” etc etc.
If India has not paid any money for gorky then this might be the right time to ged rid of this floating junk (assuming the condition is as bad as stated). IF russia wants it they can have the carrier. Even logistically it makes more sense to go for IAC’s with DCN and italians as consultants.
Exactly what is more than 1.6 bil ? At 1.6 bilion it comes out to 40 mil per MKI which is a steal. Even 2 billion for 40 MKI’s is a excellent deal.
So did GOI agree to the price hike for the Su-30’s or did they convert it to euros?
Remove the wax from your ears. I have always wanted rafale or typhoon (not withstanding the saudi deal). I guess these must be the eastern fighters??:D IAF pilots really like both these also gripen, but if politicians are the ones who select the fighter russia or US can win the deal. No climb down on my part. Anyway good to know PAK-Fa deal will be signed soon.
I agree, the typhoon just seems a lot of hype. Personally i will be rooting for Rafale.
ijust don’t think any really important operational parameter would be given out.
At this rate INS Vikrant will be commissioned before the gorky.
Nick I will take Su-30 MKK or even Mk2 over F-14 anyday. Aerodynamically, avionically they are still superior. This is iran we are talking about. How many phoenix missiles do they have?
And who do you think is gullible enough to let out real specs? I think IAF has other problems to worry about.
What makes you think any operational details will be revealed? Its just a conference.
Why?UAE having M2Ks didnt dampen IAF interest in those.
So why are no new M2k’s coming? Saudi’s having typhoon increases the chance of paf getting access to it. I would be very surprised if IAF ever went for that. If Rafale has already given up then its battle between mig-35 and F-18.
Broncho,
How is the Tomcat mediocre?
It is a very old plane which even the USN has retired and will definitely not provide upgrades for. If they decide to reverse engineer one, they will need the russians to provide better radar and avionics. Isn’t it better to simply buy a su-30 which is better in every respect. After all irans neighbours have the following : F-15’s, EF’s, F-16 blk 52/60, tornados and mirages-2k9.
Errr still safety is everyones concern.
Never the less, Saudi’s buying typhoons and F-16’s with PAF and UAE will certainly dampen any IAF interest in these planes. Thats why I think Rafale has the greatest chance of winning. Of course Mig-35 and F-18 can gate crash if politics take precedence.
I wonder why Iran is not happy with the 1990’s Mig-29 vs the 1960’s-1970’s American Types? Especially, considering the US hasn’t provided support since the late 1979!
Because their Mig-29a’s are primarily short range air defense air crafts not multirole. Any Su-30 would be ideal replacement that attempting a copy of mediocre tomcats.
