At this rate they will be cutting down the aircraft carrier to 1 and become predominantly a brown water navy. Its time they pulled up their socks and got out of afghanistan and iraq. That is probably the most sane cost cutting solution.

Sorry, not to get off topic……….But, it will be interesting to see if the P-8A/I is widely exported like the current P-3C Orion???

I can see Japan, Australia, canada, turkey etc buying them. Why wouldn’t it have a decent sale?

Why would you want them on frigates? I would put them on larger destroyers. Frigates are better suited for Anti-ship, anti-sub & anti-air role.

Slightly old news but I hope it helps IN with P-17a. My idea of course would be FREMM with Brahmos and barak-2:cool: , but who knows.

Rosoboronexport and DCN sign a letter of intent to cooperate
    [Multipurpose frigate DCN]
    Multipurpose frigate
    crédits : DCN

    10/11/2006

At the Euronaval show in Paris, the Russian State company Rosoboronexport which performs the international activity for the benefit of the Russian defence industry and DCN signed a letter of intent to develop technical, industrial and commercial co-operations between this French naval defence group and the Russian naval defence industry. The letter of intent, signed by Vladimir Pakhomov, First Deputy Director General of Rosoboronexport, and Jacques Mouysset, DCN’s Director of Strategy and Development, allows the opening of co-operations in the field of R&D and military ships engineering between DCN and key players in Russian naval industry. These co-operations could later on be extended to the field of the naval systems. This agreement will apply to the surface warships and submarines as well, and will allow the industrial partners to enrich their own R&D and to develop their naval engineering capabilities. The reinforcement of the partners’ potential for technological innovation and of the competitiveness of their commercial offers, as a result of these co-operations, will provide DCN and Rosoboronexport with better access to new markets, in particular for export.

    I would counter with……..

    (A) Order 40-50 more Flankers (Su-30’s).

    (B) Upgrade Current Fleet of Mig-29’s and Mirages 2000’s.

    (C) Order 126 (to start) F/A-18E/F’s Super Hornets to replace older types.

    (D) Cancel LCA program and move on! (possibly with F-35’s after 2015-17)

    (E) Join the US to develope and manufacture P-8I Patrol Aircraft.

    FLY NAVY😎

    A) They are ordering 40 MKI
    B) Taken care off
    C) Rafale is far superior to a junk like F-18, order 120+ of those.
    D) Get kaveri done with snecma’s help and get LCA into squardon service by 2008-09. Junk like JSF shouldn’t ever come into the picture and go with Mig for 5th gen
    E) Go with P-8I if can be customised properly or else falcon-900 or Il-38’s.

Really, I wonder if the Indian Navy would be interested in a large American LHA? As the USS Saipan (29 years old) will be retired shortly………they could operate India’s Sea Harriers in the short-term………….

NO, I think they would prefer building the three mistral based platforms. India was never interested in a 40k ton LHD. The mistral class fits their requirement perfectly.

    INS Vagli diving trials
    Saturday December 16 2006 12:16 IST

VISAKHAPATNAM: Indian Navy’s Foxtrot class submarine INS Vagli completed diving trials after a medium refit at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) here.

Damn I thought the foxtrots were all retired and gone. It must be 30+ years old by now.

I guess you’re not seeing the point. Turbinia isn’t “on a high horse”. He brought up points which were correct. If they are afterwards countered by very obscure and not even true ways, then I think Turbinia is correct. If the other party (this case Harry) doesn’t want to give up and keeps going, then it’s Turbinia’s right to tell him the discussion is over and that’s what Turbinia meant with his last reply.

EHOG, well that shows you quite rapidly that there are no Indian warships with indigenous SAM, SSM, radars, torpedoes and helicopters in service. Without those things you don’t really have a warship do you?
As for China, in case you’re not satisfied with the first argument, we see they have plenty of indigenous SSMs, radars and now even SAMs. We of course do not know the effort they have done to reach this, but all together they are now reaping a tremendous harvest from that.

As for the SeaKings, how will they be refurbished? With parts of the American ones? Or is that an additional deal?

Are you talking about chinese SSM’s that fail to explode and even sink a piddly corvette or the low grade warships that thailand regreted buying? The only reason PN is going for them is because they have no money and china is funding the sale.

I guess by the same token Iran has achieved tremendous strides in weapon technology. After all they can copy and remake the chinese SSM’s and SAM’s like China does with russian designs. Hell they even improved the F-5 to a super duper twin finned config and unlike china are not ashamed of letting out the specs.

Seakings will be refurbished by augusta westland. EHOG seriously.

I think the Americans have an inside track in this race (just my opinion). Look at this: an additional 40 MKIs is definitely on the cards as per latest news reports, will find link if it hasn’t been posted in the IAF thread, the IN will probly buy a bunch of MiG 29ks (about which we have seen some press). Thats close to 80+ aircraft. That leaves the Russians somewhat placated and plenty of room for 126 additional birds, which can be American.

If they don’t buy American jets, I hope they just buy all MiG 35s. Go French only if they scuttle plans to sell Marlins to Pak or Raffles to China.

    Regards,
    USS.

No expanding India-US military ties beyond exercises: minister

Despite strong suggestions from Washington, there is no “agenda” for expanding India-US ties beyond the current joint exercises’ level, Defence Minister AK Antony declared in New Delhi on Saturday.

Hmm some one still is in denial mode.:D Boeing has as much chance of winning the MMRCA as kerry has of becoming the next president of USA. The 40 additional MKI + 36 Mig-29K + upgrade of 66 Mig-29’s will ensure russians are happy while IAF can go ahead and get Rafale.

Why should France not sell Marlins to pak for hard cash, If US can donate free weapons to the same? If US ever gets the deal rest assured the left will pull the govt down.

The Super Hornet/Su-30MKI combo would likely to a stepping stone to the F-35 and beyond………………….what would a Rafale/Su-30MKI be a stepping stone to??? Also, in the fighter business who wants or can afford to be sufficient!!! There is no second place……………….second place equals “DEAD”! Sorry, but with all do respect your logic fails me……..

LOL F-18 won’t make the cut so I guess we can already rule out F-35. If India -US defence relation ever takes off, which it won’t you can dream about stepping stones.:D
The 5th gen will be with Mig and russia, The JSF has no future here.

If India buys a dud like F-18, then its a sure shot reciepe for failure. It won’t even come second. It will be last behind the J-10, which can atleast fire all russian and chinese missiles.:)

The tech gap is being addressed especially with Israeli inputs. I seriously doubt the Europeans can offer anything that a combination of Israel+Russian+India can’t produce.

The only country in any position to offer some sort of a tech advantage is the U.S. and they know it. The F18 e/f for all its flaws, still offers a fully mature AESA technology that none of the others can…the russians/israelis perhaps, but the captor/amsar seem a little further away. Plus it has an engine that works with the LCA.

I think the Euros too realize this and thats why we don’t see any shouting from that end. The French gave up as soon as the American option became a real possibility. IMHO, they seem to have already thrown in the towel as far as the MRCA is concerned. The E2k never had much of a chance, same as the Gripen.

My guess – the deal will be split between F18s and MiG 35s, perhaps 200 a/c total.

    Regards,
    USS.

There will be no F-18 rest assured on that.:) . The vanilla AESA that F-18 would bring will be without TOT and will not have the capability to fire any of the existing missiles in IAF arsenal. An absolute dud in other words.:diablo:

IAF are no fools, The AESA will come as EL-2052 in 4-5 years and not from US. I don’t know about 200 a/c but the 126 MRCA will deal will mostly be french or russian.
