Comparing Mica to R-77 is the same as comparing Exocet to Brahmos.
small modernization of R-77 is entering in year or so and big modernization in 2010 with 100 to 250% increase in range , 100 seconds time, dual warheads, antimissile defense, rear protection.
Are you talking about the R-77M missile. It is supposed to have a range of 160Km but nothing much is known about it.
As I stated earlier and everyone on this forum knows. Thta I am far from a big Super Hornet fan. On the otherhand what type as a total system is superior????
Really??:diablo: People would be surprised after reading your messages. I would suggest you first read the requirements for the A/C as per IAF needs and then The GOI policy on export orders greater than Rs 300 Crore. Rafale, Mig-35 or Gripen (outside) are the only ones that fit.
Well, time will tell…………regardless the Super Hornet is the better product. Of course the better mouse trap doesn’t always win………..
Far from it…It is a good example of a mediocre aircraft, but then it is difficult to convince those in denial:D .
Why should they be connected?
If India did not buy the Super Hornet now, and in future decided to by F-35 (in many years down the road), and US is willing – it could be a done deal
India will neither buy the F-18 nor the F-35. But then as I said earlier I can’t stop anyone from dreaming:D . The F-18 is the weakest competitor for the MRCA deal. The nuke deal wether it passes or not cannot save F-18. It is clearly inferior to both Rafale and Eurofighter (Don’t bring radars and weapons not cleared for sale into picture). Boeing will not get the deal because they cannot provide a direct offset of 30 % all future deals must have. The way I see it, It is advantage Russia and France.:)
Sound like your the the bitter one???
LOL I think everyone can see who is sad that India won’t buy their pathetic whorenets and PAC’s.:p
Sorry, to disappoint you but your “propagada” has little effect on me nor “your poor choice of words” :p
Truth is bitter unlike propaganda my friend. I know it hurts you to hear the truth. But the pain will go away.:D
Really, not much use to Russia and/or Iran and the US could careless……..
To russia probably not but Iran still considers israel a threat and wouldn’t mind having a look at F-16’s. But I hope chavez doesn’t sell it to them.
Don’t look but your Anti-American bias is showing…………………:p
When was I trying to hide it? Sorry but your pathetic attempts to hawk american junk seems like a a pimp trying to sell a ugly whore:D . (Super Whorenet anyone?)
Personally, I see an American buy as very likely! Especially, with Russia selling just about everything and anything to China. Further, Pakistan Military could for the first time in many years pose a credible threat. So, India needs a technological advantage…………….and the US is in the best place to give it! IMO
FLY NAVY:cool:
Russia has been selling junk to china for a long while, nothing new there. The only limited threat posed by pakistan is due to weapons donated by USA. India needs technological and stratergic edge by never buying american weapons. Personally I would prefer if boeing contracts were cancelled and given to airbus, but that would be dragging civilian matters into military arena.
Easiest way to retain edge over neighbours would be to get the best russian and french stuff. Maybe collaboration with israel.
More than likely they will be sold secondhand to a current F-16 operator………with the US permission of course!
I doubt Chavez gives 2 hoots about US approval:rolleyes: . I am guessing russian have already had a looksie at the F-16s or chavezes buddy in iran?

Indian Navy Issues RFI for Stealth Frigates Contract

The Indian Navy plans to acquire up to seven stealth frigates from either European or Russian shipyards. The Navy is also said to be looking for joint development and technology transfer as part of the estimated Rs. 4,000 crore deal.
The Request for Information (RFI), the first formal step in the process of military acquisition, has been issued to about a dozen European and Russian shipyards. The proposed acquisition would be worth more than Rs 30,000 crore.
Confirming the issue, Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta, said it was prompted by the delay in acquisition of modern equipment that set in during the past two decades due to constraints on defence budgets and other factors, and the inability of Indian shipyards to deliver quickly.
However, “It is not necessary that we will take this route,” Mehta said. The other available option is for Indian shipyards to step up warship production to meet the projected force levels.
The RFI is for a set of seven stealth frigates, each costing about Rs. 4,000 crores. According to a proposal, the first ship would be built in the foreign shipyard, while the rest six would be built at Mazagon Docks Limited in Mumbai or at Garden Reach Shipyard in Kolkata.
The project, called P-17A, is envisaged as the next generation ships of the ongoing Project 17 Shivalik class multi-role stealth frigates.
The first Shivalik class ship is expected in early 2007. Though the cabinet approved it in 1997, the Shivalik class construction was delayed by a few years owing to various factors. Project 17 envisages a total of 12 ships, and the seven ships for which the RFI has now been issued would form a part of the project.
The Indian Navy recently has been looking at both domestic construction and foreign acquisition of warships to make up for the shortcomings. India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier is under construction in the Kochi Shipyard, while another carrier is being readied in Russia.
After acquiring three Talwar class guided missile frigates from Russia, the Navy is awaiting three more ships of the same class, but with an advanced technology from Russia. These three ships are expected to join the Navy sometime in 2011. By middle of next year, the massive US landing platform dock Trenton would also join the naval services. A total of 30 warships in slated to join the Navy in a decade.
Perhaps, but at least it is available now, in series production and has the advantage of making geo-political (if not necessarily military) sense.
India and the US are getting closer, there may also be some quid pro quo in return for India’s nuclear ambitions being accepted by the US.
Unicorn
No they are not getting any closer. IF IAF buys the whorenet it will just show GOI to be retarded morons for buying worthless junk. US can keep supplying free weapons to ****’s and you are stupid enought to think India will buy anything worthwhile from them?:D . Just wait and watch it will be french or russian. BTW Rafle and eurofighter are also available.
The Nuke deal if it does not get killed by US Govt will be killed in the Indian parliament. The new reactors will again be russian or french wether you like it or not.
Interesting! Personally, I expect to see F/A-18E/F Super Hornets in Indian markings shortly……….:p
LOL 😀 Never going to happen. THe IAF is least impressed with that plane. Rafale or russian plane just wait and see.
Well, I don’t seriously see it happening. Yet, with nations like China building large Aircraft Carriers. Possibly, India would consider building larger CTOL Carriers (i.e. CVF Type) and pass along the ADS (i.e. IAC) Carriers to a third party……………….
Yeah we have hearing about China’s carrier attempts for a decade now. 😀 When they are finally able to handle one the IAC-2 and probably 3 will be in service. I don’t see IN going for CTOL unless india can manufacture the catapults or the Russians succeed in making one.
Err isn’t a 20 ton ac can operate the same as saying Mig-29K can operate? F-18 and Rafale will not serve in IN ever. Ofcourse I can’t stop you from dreaming though:D .
I’d rather see the Invincible in IN colors. The Viraat could be used in a lighter role, with helis and perhaps a plethora of missiles (somewhat like a heavy bruiser cruiser), or may be even in an LPH role, thereby giving it a bit of a break. The IN Shars could be used off the Invincible for quite some time.

USS.
I agree since IN needs three carriers purchasing the invincible in 2010 and converting it to commando carrier would make sense. They can easily carry 15-16 harriers and 6 Heli’s. When the IAC-2 joins IN invincible can be convereted to full fledged chopper carrier along with trenton.
The viraat is old. By 2010 it will be ready for its golden jubilee. It has served the RN and IN well, its time it was allowed a well deserved rest.
