How about after the construction of the ADS.(sorry IAC) India sells them to Brazil and builds CVF’s under license in India for the Royal Indian Navy. Hey, I can drean can’t I…………

Why would they sell IAC to brazil? IN needs it along with gorky and 1 more AC. Brazil doesn’t have any planes that can take off from IAC. If you mean the design, can they build a AC by themselves?

Counting your chickens too early guys:p . Let cochin first finish ADS-1. Then there is ADS-2 to go then we can think about selling designs or AC’s to other countries. Right now I just want ADS-2 to be a lot bigger, atleast 60K ton range.

nope i don’t think that would work as kitty hawk is an old ship and is very near it 50 years it would be very maintainace intesive it would be even worse than hermes due to it much harder servise life i couldn’t see it ever working

True, the ship is too old and IN is commited to Gorky and ADS. I cn’t see them thinking of another carrier till the two are in service. Then they could hopefully tie up for a CVF based design.

Networking Infrastructure Upgraded for Indian Navy Warships

This would be a first of sorts for the Indian Navy. Three ships to be delivered by Mazgaon Docks Limited (MDL) to the Indian Navy will have LAN connections with a 10g backbone.

A veteran in developing ships for the Indian defence, MDL had invited tenders for the project in 2005. The ships are being developed at the Mazgaon Docks.

CMC bagged the contract last Friday. The order is valued at Rs 7.4 crore.

Arvind Kumar, account manager at CMC said, “We will install LAN for three ships to be developed by MDL for the Indian Navy. We will do complete network integration for these three ships.”

He added, “10g is a very special requirement. Installed in rare cases, the 10g backbone helps faster transmission and processing of data.”

At present, most networks run on 1G platform and midrange servers from HP.

The OEMs for the project would be Dlink Foundry for switches and backbone, and passage components, HP for servers and Microsoft for software.

Kumar refused to divulge more details and said, “It is confidential since the ships are being developed for the Indian Navy.”

The project involves two-tier network architecture with core and zonal switches. The zonal switches would be strategically implemented and connect to the core switch over 10G Ethernet over fiber. The delta connectivity created due to redundant link would also provide load sharing for entire traffic life.

Other bidders for the project were Wipro, HCL and Adlink (Singapore).

The project will be completed in three phases. Each ship will be taken up independently per phase.

If, you can afford C-17’s you don’t need anything else!:D

    Get 2 An-124 and Aussies don’t need any C-17’s:D .

Get prepared for a tsunami of pics tomorrow and monday.

    Yak-141 rumours are Bravo Sierra.

Can’t wait for them. Is venezuela also planning to replace the mirage-3/5’s and F-5’s? I was wondering if they would consider Mig-35 to replace these aircrafts.

between the two, I would go for the new chinese destroyers..even if they are inferior in its fire control and armament to India’s latest one.. the most important fact is that Chinese ships are being pumped out faster and in general, having more is also a good thing.

The question was which is better and Delhi is certainly the better one. The numbers is a different matter.

The Koreans have a very mature ship building industry, their combat ship building skills are self evadent just look at their designs – KDX-3, im sure that if the Indian navy tendered for aegis type destroyers they would welcome the Korean Destroyer eXperimental no doubt.
What immediatly comes to mind is the La Fayette, very stealthy design, dispalces around 4 700 tonnes, and can accomadoate a 10 tonne helicopter.

Taiwain ordered their Kang Ding-class, six Lafayette-class frigates at a cost of US$2.8 billion.

IF IN wanted aegis type destroyer then it would have to develop it own its own. US is not going to give the source codes required to integrate Brahmos and Barak-2.

Lafayette are 3500 ton displacement and are too tiny with very little armament. The FREMM is bigger and hopefully can accomodate a larger number of missiles. I hope the P-17a would be based on FREMM.

He needs new SU-30s because we (U.S.) will not supply him any parts to keep his air force’s fleet F-16s airworthy and Russia will sell their military hardware to anyone who has the cash to pay for them.

Unlike US who will use their peoples tax dollars to gift lawndarts to tin pot dictators in the name of “War of terror”:D

Bronco: mate seriously, I too would have prefered the An-124 but I think what we did was the right decision, I don’t like buying too much from one country, but in this case, it is the only choice and it has the accredited point feasible for service (the main one being ready now when we need them). Yes I think the colour scheme is dull and boring, wish they had of kept 36Sqdn’s bush camo, perhaps I could persuade someone on the “What If” forum to do a C-17 in the bush camo 😉

Oh, I wasn’t implying that condor would have been better for RAAF, just the looks. Right now C-17 seems to be the best bet for RAAF. Since only 4 are ordered currently would they go ahead and order more or are they looking at A-400M?

The aircraft ain’t bad either! :diablo:

Something must be wrong with me. That plane looks butt ugly. I will take a condor anyday.:D. But this is a big leap in transport capability for RAAF. congrats to them.

    potential fitment of P17A:

    – “nagan” sonar suite
    – “Apsoh/humsa” hull sonar & towed sonar
    – 6xNPOL heavy torpedo tubes (co-developed with kazakhstan ex-ussr
    bureau)
    – 2 x Dhruv or 2 x NH90 helos
    – gas turbine power plant
    – high level of hull , acoustic, IR stealth per latest EU stds (one reason why
they are scouting the EU designs)
    – 16 x vl brahmos
    – 32 x barak-NG if available else Aster-30 🙂
    – 32 x barak-1 point-defence
    – 2 x 30mm ciws cannon (kashtan-M ?)
    – the usual decoys and ESM
    – MF-star-mki attack radar on fore mast / else EMPAR if barak-NG delayed
    – a 3D search radar of EU origin on rear mast / a scaled up CAR radar from
    the T28 ASW corvettes
    – 1 x 5″ oto-breda gun
    – RBU anti torpedo grenades
    – Thales IRST for missile detection
    – more sensor and control system integration compared to P17 and Krivaks
    – node in the navywide network being implemented
    – ability to downlink KA-31 AEW and Heron UAV

Nagan is a TAS and the sonar suite would most likely be HUMSA. I am not sure if just 5000+ ton ship could carry 16 brahmos + 64 barak’s and kasthan-M along with 2 helos.
The numbers of Brahmos or Baraks might have to be scaled down if the ship has to carry all that you have mentioned

Bronco, you can’t just exchange things. Brahmos is a lot bigger and heavier than Exocet and that would bring quite some complications.
FREMM doesn’t really have a good radar as she’s not meant to have any long range weapons. Would bring quite some trouble to change it as its mounted pretty high, so all the additional weight could cause topweight problems (and so on, just one example of how many problems you can encounter when you change stuff on ships).

I agree but IN will want brahmos in all future ships along with barak-2. Somehow FREMM does not fit the bill as it can only carry 1 helicopter.
I am not sure about long range weapons part, the MM40 Block-3 has 180 Km range.

FREMM price is supposed to be about 400 mn Euros per ship, and they’re a bit bigger. Type 45 is bigger still, but much more expensive.

How much would they cost if the exocet has to be replaced with Brahmos and have Barak-II installed? What about radar and stuff, since IN is standardizing on MF-STAR.
