Nice photo’s Martin.
Interesting photo’s there Paul…..thanks.
Paul, thanks for sharing this, it was great to read. I was aware that SM had been used in some way for the making of the film but didn’t know exactly what and how. I must watch it again now. The only bit I ever recognised was at the end of the film where the camera is looking along the Camel Estuary….. E Boat beached??…as the titles role.
I guess a trip to 405 is on the cards next time then?? 🙂
Happy Birthday James !!
More excellent photo’s, thank you Dr S, more please…..
This is spitfireman’s site (B Wallond with an A), although none of the Vulcan, it shows other examples of his work. Hopefully this will help.

Excellent pics James thank you for posting them up, and thank you to Mike of course for allowing you to share them with us.
Helimed has indeed moved to the HAS site recently.
I feel very sad from hearing of this particular company’s policy. An utter disgrace. I understand from one report that I’ve read, that the individual in question was asked to remove her Poppy in front of other customers. So, not only do they employ a questionable policy but they also employ managers who use humiliation as a management tool.
Very disappointing, I hope they reconsider and send that manager on an appropriate training course.

….excellent James, thanks for posting those.
I guess that Viscount didn’t go anywhere in a hurry as the runway would have been Black. I think it may be have been a British Midland example.
Pagen and Chox
Thanks chaps, I’ll look it up………
I have just caught up with this thread again now and I have to say how much I enjoy reading your recollections. As pagen said, more from the pre 80’s would be great…and photo’s too of course! I would love to see photo’s of the V jets on East whatever they were.
Chox – is the Victor on East photo published anywhere? can you point me in the right direction??
East was mainly an FOB for 12 and 208 sqdn Buccs in my time but other types used it as well (F4 certainly, laterly Tornado prior to HAS – I believe the very last F4 OCU Det was to SM’s East Dispersal in ’88…. I think) Certainly it was in use several times a year. Often during specific NATO exercises…”Ready Rob” and “Crusader” are two that spring to my mind. I remember East being quite well appointed almost “self sufficient” if you like, particularly with it’s kitchen/mess facility (good breakfasts! – hey, so I loved Compo sausage!!- you’ll eat anything when your cold and hungary!!!) and briefing rooms, ops and engineering etc etc. All gone now and replaced with a nice new Fire Training Rig….oh, and the “Bat house” of course for our resident bats.
heh heh heh:) I remember that, bought a smile to my face too.
..and mine;)
WgCdrFlap, you’ve got the wrong hangar, the Canberras were serviced in 401 which was behind the tower and demolished, the airworks support building is still there, not is use by the airport, but wired off on the MoD side.
…er no, it was 403………… 401 was recently the Seaking spray booth and closest to NLF (Treloy) and is still part of RAF St Mawgan today…. 402 hangar was MT in the 80’s and until July 08 was 203 Sqn hangar….403, before being demolished, was behind the tower, XV257 lived in there for a year following the bombay fire………and then there is 404 or the Nimrod hangar. 405, as you know is on the otherside of NLF/Treloy….
The Airwork buildings (as was) and now attached to what was No1 Sqn RAF Reg’s vehicle shed, are part of NQY airport, as described above, and still behind the old tower.
