Hello Buzzer, I remember the “Wednesday Boys” as we used to call them. In fact it was Baz that coined the phrase……more photo’s please 😉

Not quite, the one built nearest Watergate (Watchman?) was built when I was there and have pics of it going up somewhere, I’m guessing 1999-2000?
certainly both operated together when it was completed.
I’m guessing this replaced the old radar head (AR15) that was atop a low brick building on the left just as you go on to Trebelzue from the domestic site.

…yep, I would agree, the Watchman tower would have been built later than I suggested and it def replaced the AR15 in the location we agree on.

As Baz states, the HAS construction started in 1989.

Mr M Hayes does a great job here and I would recommend a visit if you’re in the Westcountry. Although the runways have gone the airfield layout is still evident not least the “E” pens around the old taxiway. I wish I could have been there at the weekend but work got in the way…again.

    Nice Spitfire Graham 😉

The radar in use in the mid 80’s would have been the AR15 (previously the AR1) positioned along the boundary fence between the old watch office and the main camp at Treloy. It was a small brick building not much bigger than a garage with the radar head on small metal tower along side of it. The brick building is still there, the tower isn’t.

    The two concrete towers ….
The one nearest Watergate Bay was the Watchman Radar tower, the other close to the old watch office was the SSR tower (Secondary Surveillance Tower), both worked together and were built in the early 90’s and decomissioned in Dec 2008.

The red building is probably part of one of the Explosive Storage Areas, as was. Not sure exactly where you mean though.

Sadly, Graham had run out of Wurthers Originals by this stage and had to send out for more……;)
