This isn’t one of mine. Apologies, but I don’t know the photographer. Happy to credit should anyone recognise this shot of XV242, or remove, if it’s felt appropriate.

What is odd though is the glossy underside and full roundels on a Hemp finish aircraft.
As far as I can remember, they were all painted with the full roundel on the underside, at least initially.
Caught this one at Brize in 1983. I’m afraid I don’t know which airframe it was.

XV226 in 1984

….and again

Already posted elsewhere but thought I’d put it here too..

I was TG9 aswell……but not as old as rover!!!!
It’s a damned shame that they couldn’t have hung-on a couple more months, and they could have flown four Nimrods up the Mall for Her Maj’s birthday. That would have been a very fitting end for a magnificent aeroplane. But then we all know that the powers-that-be wouldn’t want to have too much attention drawn to the type’s shamelessly premature withdrawal!
..and it’s well into the new financial year…………there I go being cynical again, must stop it 😉
Airart – excellent photo of the Shack and the Nimrod at Luqa, then I looked again…there are two Nimrod tails. One of which appears to be XV257 which suffered the Bomb bay fire at St Mawgan Jun 84 which effectively ended its career.
Thank you and the same to you all…
she’s eaten my egg all ready :dev2:

Great photo’s, I particularly like your last with the Old ATC 🙂
Manser, Nettleton, Leroy (not sure I spelt that right) Chesire….?
That’s a shame Dr, seems to have taken a few by suprise. I just got lucky I guess.

Arriving a little earlier than planned!
Fortunately I’d arrived at Spitfire Corner with some time to spare, just as well……..
Anyway, sad to see the MR2 for the last time. The cloud was just starting to break up with glimpses of blue sky here and there. XV232 did three approaches in all.
Here are some of my attemts at recording the event…..

….and with that, off into the history books.
Crikey, Manser Block! That was me for six weeks Nov 78, my room, first on the right downstairs!!
Ah, and the joy of bulling the Lino floor of a Monday Evening.
The station cinema…been in there a time or two……usually for some religious lesson rather actual films.
Also, take a look at the images in the Google Street Map programme to see this area as it is now. If you haven’t already, you could be in for a shock.
I don’t remember the Vampire gate guard though.
Great photo’s, thanks for posting them. Takes me way back.
I just wish they’d turn the lights up a bit more so you can see the exhibits properly 🙂
I was there last March, pre glass wall. I very much enjoyed walking through the Sunderland, several times in fact. I hope they will open it again now and allow a better view of the flightdeck.
Hi Wingcomandrflap
I believe that Brymon flew a service from London City to Paris for Air France hence the colours. I think you may be out on your dates though ‘YC’ only operated in Air France livery from the second half of 90 and the first half of 91 (?).
Crikey am I that far out? Must be getting old, I was certain it was earlier than ’90….:o
Taken from the tower balcony in May 1984.

Here is another shot of a recent flyby….
