This one you mean, no longer with us sadly…
That’s the one Allen. What happened to her?
I cannot see why the airlines cant provide a smarter look. Polo shirts would be a happy medium, they are casual but look a little smarter than a thin t-shirt. No one is saying the should employ a fashion designer but smart uniforms create an impression, even supermarket staff have better uniforms than those LCCs.
And I avoid no-frills carriers where possible. The trouble is the are spreading and it is difficult to find a full-service carrier on some routes. I used to make use of BD from EMA but then they switched all the flights to WW. I do sometimes use WW EMA-EDI but with reluctance and if the price isnt too excessive I go LBA-EDI with BD and get a proper service!
Well, like most people, I travel with whoever can get me there safely and for the most reasonable price, because at the end of the day, I am travelling because I want/need to go somewhere, not because I want to eat (that’s where restaurants are handy) and not because I want to see people wearing nice clothes, as I couldn’t really give a toss about what anyone else wears. It would be rather boring if all cabin crew wore the same style of clothing, no?
You’ll love this…..years ago, I flew MAN/VIE with Lauda Air (a full service carrier then, if they are not now) and would you believe that the cabin crew were wearing jeans and a waistcoat!! I confess, it didn’t ruin the experience for me at all. Oh my god!! 😮 SHOCK!! 😮 HORROR!! 😮 – how many sick bags would you have needed on this particular flight?
Given the stark contrast in their onboard services, it all seems sensible to me. Not everyone on the WW flight will make use of the cabin crew during the flight, therefore the airline can afford to operate with the legal minimum and provide almost as quick a service to those who wish to buy their comestibles on board and still have enough staff to cope with an emergency. On a BD flight, they will likely have to serve 95%+ of the passengers on board.
On all my flights with EZY, I haven’t once not been served when I was looking to be served – and this includes several full flights on such short services as LTN/EDI.
I have only ever seen one on the ground, in a bit of a nasty state too (at GLA I think – Mr. Frew??). Never heard, or felt one take off. There are so many planes I’d love to have flown on, but I’m just not old enough! Well, I am old enough, but not of a sufficient age to have experienced flying on them ……. ah hell, you know what i mean!
I love the background to the IB one, Andy. And tonyosborne, I love those photos and that silver Aeroflop livery is stunning.
If I remember correctly, one per 50 seats is the rule, more are provided by airlines that want to provide a better service than the minimum cover can provide. So, 3 on a 149 seat 737 and 1 on a 49 seat Jungle Jet is the legal minimum.
Andy
That’s as I understand it too Skymonster.
Jings! Well I never knew that. You smart-ar$e you! 😀
Last time I flew as a passenger LTN/GIB/LTN, with ZB, I was handed a questionnaire on board the return sector (as were all my fellow passengers) asking around 20 questions to do with the on-board service. The results eventually led to the decision to cut the free preset meal and drinks and to replace it with a varied optional menu, at a reasonable cost. Perhaps that answers your last question?
Whether you choose to fly with ZB again or not, you’re going to have to just simply accept that this is the way ZB are these days. It’s not going to change back.
Any idea what the Scotairways Dornier was doing at STN? Where from?
Incidentally, fantastic photos you have taken there Wannabe.
As much as I love Inverness to bits, being Scottish and all that, I still think that it was a brave choice in the first place for a service to Stockholm. I think SAS made a mess of snowflake and as someone has already pointed out, national carriers haven’t yet mastered the lo-co model when setting up these off-shoots. Will they ever strike, erm, I mean learn.
Really nice pic, but I cannot help but think that the engines on the Trident look seriously undersized. It looks like the aviation equivalent of a 4×4 being powered by a moped engine!
Hypocritically though, I would have loved to have flown on one. :p
Cracking pics – thanks for sharing. 🙂
They only need bigger muscles to carry all the food you expect!!!
*sniggers* 😀
Yep saw it a while ago on the bottom of the page, dont think we could have picked better moderators 🙂
Oh come on now!! That’s not what you said the other day!! (Only joking!) 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Well done A330Crazy!
They’d do better on AMS from CVT if they were double daily. CVT/AMS can handle that if they do it at the right times – i.e. morning and mid-evening departures. They could easily fill it in, in the middle, with a rotation or two to destinstions that cannot warrant more than one flight a day (PRG?) or to increase the frequency on current routes. CVT-Scotland shouldn’t be to difficult to make work should a decent amount of marketing be done to explain which towns are also close to Coventry.
Me, a frustrated route planner? Well, yeah – I’d love to do it for a living 😮 . At the moment they are just hunches of which routes could work but some proper researching would keep me busy, with the right airline, of course! 🙂
