Is the Mother a CRJ700? The chick a EMB145?

My favourite flight wasn’t a commercial flight either.
Whilst on holiday visiting a friend in New Jersey 4 summers ago, I was treated to a flight by her boyfriend in his boss’ little 7 seater Piper (unsure which type exactly). The highlight of this particular flight was flying over the length of Manhattan at only few thousand feet – flying over Harlem, Central Park and seeing buildings such as the Empire State, Chrysler and the Twin Towers from a fantastic viewpoint. To top it all off, we then flew around the Statue of Liberty – a particular bonus as we run out of time on our city tour that day and had to miss out the ferry ride and a visit to the Statue. After flying around the statue, we then headed back to the airfield in New Jersey. The whole flight only lasted about 25 minutes but it was breathtaking. I managed to catch some of it on video too, thankfully.
My favourite commercial flight was probably the flight over to EWR with VS on a B744 – despite travelling stand-by and having been ‘bumped’ off the first flight we checked in for and hoped to get on AND being delayed by 8 hours due to a electrical sub-station fire in T3 LHR, the flight itself was soopoib.
New York, New York – so good they mugged me twice!!!!
My first ever flight was on 23rd July 1988 GLA/PMI on one of these…..
I thought that Air 2000 were fantastic back then. The last time I flew with them was in October 1992 TFS/MAN and they were still good as far as onboard service goes.
I’m pleased to report that I haven’t flown on a charter flight since the TFS/MAN flight!!! Scheduled all the way………..
Hallo Thomas und willkommen!
Is your company a descendant of the former Swisswings? The route network looks very similar.
Duesseldwarf.
Wingflaps2 ya bugger!! I was just about to post this thread!!!!
I’d love to set up a Scottish National Airline. Probably named something like Tartan Air (although still tempted by Air Scotia!)
Tartan Air would have it’s main base in Glasgow and a second base in Edinburgh.
It would use turbo props (probably ATR 42/72) to operate into GLA and EDI from airports around Scotland (ABZ/DND/INV/WIC/SYY/KOI/LSI) at least double daily.
It would operate on the basis of low(er) cost but not no-frills. I would like to see Tartan Air operate a two class cabin using Airbus A320 family aircraft and serve the following domestic/european routes. Business Class seats would number no more than 15.
GLA – CDG/FRA/AMS/DUB/MAD/ROM/MIL/ATH/PRG/LON/BRU/MUC/VIE/GVA
EDI –
CDG/FRA/AMS/DUB/MIL/PRG/LON/BRU/MUC/GVA/OSL/CPH/STO
ABZ & DND –
LON/BHX/MAN/AMS/CDG
Ahhhh – but it is all a pipedream! If ever I felt I had too many millions of pounds to dispose of in a hurry………..
I like both the 4th and the 5th
Having just watched the program featuring Ryanair, I think that MOL was nothing other than honest about Ryanair’s tactics and business model. Fair play to him I say. Everyone knows that they don’t always fly to the closest airport to the cities they serve, that is one of the many many reasons they are cheaper as stated in the program (but is also common sense). Everyone knows that they are ruthless and unsympathetic when mistakes are made by passengers. Why do people book? First of all they are cheap. Secondly, the chance of anything going majorly wrong is quite slim – just like it is with any other carrier.
I have flown with Ryanair on over 30 flights to date and the worst thing that has happened, thus far, is that a timing change meant I could no longer travel on a daytrip and I had to get my money reimbursed (just like I would have done with any other carrier). We also made a booking error on one occasion and lost our money (£60) – but it was our fault at the end of the day! As a mini-protest at the lack of sympathy, I decided I would no longer purchase anything onboard another Ryanair flight. Well, my pride told me to do SOMETHING! Other than that, it’s been the usual weather delays. Nothing any airline can do about the weather now, is there?
With Ryanair alone, I have travelled abroad 10 times this year to cities all over Europe. I would be a complete bloody hypocrite to say that I don’t like them, when I keep booking flights with them!! Without Ryanair, there are many cities/countries I would never have visited – and I have not had an unpleasant trip yet. I, for one, hope that Ryanair continue to open up more destinations that are not served by the low cost boys as I fully intend to take advantage of the fares whilst I am living in close proximity to their main UK base.
I work for an airline and although the industry is a bit un-nerved by the low cost boys, I am still able to see that Ryanair are not villains – they are simply innovators. Why should a successful company be slated just for being successful? Jealousy? If I worked in any other industry, I wouldn’t even think of Ryanair as anything other than heroes. Most would miss them if they weren’t there.

Gill Airways planned re-launch looking doubtful!!!

I loved the Caleta Palace when I stayed there last time. I think it was 3 years past January when I was there. I was only there for 24 hours though but still I managed to see The Rock, the caves and the marina and a drive around Gib a good few times as the road between the Caleta and the Airport was closed at the time, which meant we had to drive the l-o-n-g way round….. a nice place.
I knew that Spanish and English were both widely spoken in Gibraltar before I went there for the first time but then the funniest thing happened. I heard a conversation where the sentences were a mixture of Spanish and English – and I am talking about within the same sentence here!!
When asking for the bill, our host ask the waiter for “la cuenta, please” – I then asked about this only to be told that it’s not uncommon. Later on that day, a ticket agent for Monarch was quoting the cost of a ticket and said “incluido los taxes”!!!
I then was told that this is where the word ‘Gib’berish comes from – but I am unsure whether I should believe that or not!!
Anyone else heard anything spoken in Gibberish?
Yes! I can’t disagree with you there…….

Monarch Scheduled fly to Gibraltar from Luton daily in the Summer and 5 times a week in the Winter. Believe it or not, it is a very successful route – so much so, that Monarch are using a 757 this Summer on the route. It appeals to not only people from the UK heading out to GIB itself or to the Spanish holiday resorts along the Costa del Sol, but also to the residents of GIB who are heading to the UK. GB Airways (under the British Airways banner) also fly at least once a day from Gatwick. With its business and colonial connections to the UK – it is also used by people travelling on business between the two centres.
I also think there is a small Moroccan airline (Regional Airlines?)flying to Morocco from Gibraltar – not sure if they still do that route or not.
Wingflaps2 and myself are off out to GIB for 4 days next month for a jolly. Well – we’ve got to use those staff concessions somehow! I’ve only been to GIB once before on business with Monarch – but what I saw looked good to me and I look forward to going back again next month.
Regards,
Dean.
I am surprised to read that they have been alive for 13 years – I have never even heard of them or seen any of their aircraft (even photos) and that’s with having worked in the industry for the last 10 years!
