MOSCOW, January 21 (Itar-Tass) — A strike group of ships of the Russian Navy has begun exercises in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday with the participation of long-range aviation.
During three-day exercises conducted by ships of the Russian Northern and Black Sea Fleets, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet – Moskva, will make missile launchings by means of its main strike complex Basalt and air defense complex S-300F equipped with “Fort” missiles that are capable to destroy high-speed ballistic targets at high altitudes, a source from the headquarters of the Russian Navy told Tass.
Carrier-based planes Su-33 and Su-25 will make flights from the aircraft carrier Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov.

The strike group of the Russian naval ships sailing under the colours of Northern Fleet Commander Nikolai Maximov set off on a long campaign in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea on December 5, 2007. The group includes the Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, two big anti- submarine ships Admiral Levchenko and Admiral Chabanenko, and supply ships Sergei Osipov and Nikolai Chiker.
Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said in a statement in connection with the exercises that Russia is resuming its presence in the World Ocean.
What happened?
If it was downburst (weather) crash, then it could be added to this list:
1) Eastern Airlines Flight 66, John F. Kennedy International Airport – June 24, 1975
2)Pan Am Flight 759, Miami International Airport – July 9, 1982
3)Delta Airlines Flight 191, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport – August 2, 1985
4)Martinair Flight 495, Faro Airport – December 21, 1992
5) USAir Flight 1016, Charlotte/Douglas International Airport – July 2, 1994
6)Goodyear Blimp (Stars and Stripes), Coral Springs, Florida – June 16, 2005
7)Air France Flight 358, Toronto Pearson International Airport – August 2, 2005
8)One-Two-GO Airlines Flight 269, Phuket International Airport – September 16, 2007
Downburst are air blasts that shoot down from clouds, causing aicraft to
suddenly drop on landing or takeoff, often crashing into the ground.
I drove by airport a few hours before USAir Flight 1016 crashed, and there
were clouds around the airport. The jet was slammed from above by
downburst air blasts, crashing short of the runway, sliding 1000 feet,
hitting oak trees, then stopped propped up on top of a house, killing
37 on the flight.
USA airport music
While at the airport I analyze/scan each person in view while standing in line,
(and listen to my mp3 player/radio if sitting). But, I wouldn’t mind PA system
playing “In America” by Charlie Daniels, or “Rock The Casbah” by the Clash.:D
Contact solution
Terrorists repeat their tactics, the Jihad in 1994-1995 planned to blow up a dozen airliners simultaneously over the Pacific Ocean. The plot, code-named “Bojinka,” involved liquid explosives (hydrogen peroxide) smuggled
onto target planes in bottles of contact lens solution.
Airport security equipment that can only detect conventional
explosives on passengers.
Earlier Thursday, carryons were barred from U.S.-bound flights to keep passengers from carrying liquids onto aircraft. Then the ban was extended to all flights between the United States and Britain.
British Airways carries by far the most passengers between the two countries. The airline runs 80 flights daily between Britain and 19 U.S. airports.
Good luck.
Hitler’s B-17 Mighty Fortress Warbirds
One report says that during World War II, some forty B-17s were repaired by the Luftwaffe after crash-landing or being forced down and put back into the air in the service of the Reich. These were codenamed “Dornier Do 200,” given German markings, and used for clandestine spy and reconnaissance missions by the Luftwaffe.
VVVVVery inter-esting…the secretive Luftwaffles 😀
The day Japan was nuked
According to interview with Enola Gay pilot, in fall 1944 the plans were to
nuke Europe and the Pacific simultaneously, but Europe nuking got put on
hold, or cancelled. A third nuke was in storage, and was enroute to
Japan when the Japanese finally surrendered (the third nuke was stopped
in California).
The Thomas Ferebee Building, a WWII flight operations structure at old
Morris Field NC, was dedicated at the Carolinas Aviation Museum not long
ago. Ferebee was the Enola Gay bombardier. Crewmate Dutch Van Kirk
(Enola Gay navigator) spoke at the dedication.
In 2005, B-29 FiFi visited the museum.

😀 😀 😀
According to an Air Force power point briefing provided to POGO, earlier this month at 0815 on April 10th, the controls on an F-22A at Langley Air Force Base showed that the aircraft’s canopy wasn’t locking. After several attempts at opening and closing the canopy, on the final try it locked and jammed–trapping the pilot inside.

One report says the problem was caused by a loose screw. Manufacturer’s
solution: longer screws. 😀

Anyone have information on the Cuban MiG that shot down the unarmed
civilian humanitarian Cessnas February 24, 1996? Reports said it looked
like a MiG 23.
The Cuban air defense zone is up to the 24th parallel. The US air defense identification zone, so-called ADIZ, and the Cuban zone abut the 24th parallel. The Cubans go south of the 24th parallel and the US goes north of the 24th parallel. The standard procedure is that when the US sees Cuban planes taking off, they are watched very closely. If they appear to be approaching the 24th parallel and ready to penetrate the 24th parallel going north, the US will launch fighter aircraft to intercept incoming bogey.
In 1996, the Cuban Air Force shot down two US registered civilian aircraft in international airspace. On February 24, 1996, at about 1322 eastern daylight time, two US – registered Cessna 337’s were shot down by the Cuban air force. On board each aircraft were two people, one pilot and one passenger. All occupants of both airplanes were reported missing and presumed dead. The four pilots, Armando Alejandre, Jr, 45, Pablo Morales, 30, Mario de la Pena, 26, and Carlos Costa, 29, were flying a humanitarian mission for the organization known as Brothers to the Rescue.
