Huge fan of Music here. It’s a part of life, life without Music is like life without Breathing… Its just not possible.
I’m a Metal guy at heart, first and foremost the early Metal/Rock genre heavily influenced Blues type that goes way back when, (before Elvis, he merely adopted Rock n’ Roll). So, Led Zeppelin (I mistrust anyone that dislikes them), The Kinks, The Troggs, Thunderclap Newman, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc. later, Iron Maiden whom are my main influence, Anthrax, Megadeth, early Slayer, Scoprions… etc. etc. etc. There’s a huge list and not just in Metal/Rock. Richie Havens, Buddy Holly, Jack White, Gary Numan – specifically latter Numan,… Simply put, Blues, Jazz, Progressive Rock, RnB (not this BeyoncΓ―ΒΏΒ½ sh*te, real RnB), Alternative, Industrial. My favourite right now is a Swedish band called Cult of Luna, incredibly talented, inspirational and rather nice guys, know them well.
Just, good music. Other than Dance/Hard Style, Trance or whatever this utter crap is called this week, I usually respect Music that does nothing for me but this is an exception – standing on a Mixing/DJ Desk ruining someone else’s Art by adding bass beats and speeding it all up, is not Art nor Music… Soulless cr*p, and I don’t respect it! Pop is a no-no, put that’s down to Mainstream and ‘Contacts’ in the industry that just want big Bucks.
I’m a Touring/Studio Musician at the moment, as of mid/late last year, currently playing Live for… rather not say… and currently in the US, played NYC last night (ghastly place, don’t like it.) and Boston, MA (cool place) tonight then Montreal after this then somewhere else, I forget, but it’s great fun and quite an experience. I play Guitar (beloved Gibson Les Paul Custom before they went all Corporate and Crap), and it’s a huge part of life for me, words cannot describe. Pretty special, especially as a fan of Music – Good Music – where influence is the key to playing, for me at least.
I met Jack White last week, came to one of out shows, hung out with us before and after the Gig. What a great guy, fascinating, inspirational.
Nor Jeremy, Richard nor James have been, nor are, racing drivers. Certainly if James was he wouldn’t be known as Captain Slow… Mr. Captain Slow to you and I, Jeremy is pretty hopeless at driving and Richard is just incredibly angry and tends to crash a lot. They’ve raced on several occasions on Top Gear, properly, but as Amateurs. 24hr Race at Silverstone, which was epic, and Rally Cross where everyone was called Gary, including the ladies, and the one where Jeremy accused Richard of “Attempted Murder”. That was hilarious!
They’ve all had a go at driver Race Cars, but not as they should be… Hammond had to be called in the Pits so they could actually heat up the Tyres in the F1 Renault…
The only professional driver on Top Gear is The Stig.
Mostly classic and hard rock myself. Love Metallica but don’t like metal in general.
Come to think of it, most is British. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Zeppelin…
Maiden!!!! *Head bangs like a nutter!*
Led Zeppelin… I don’t trust people that don’t like Zeppelin. Stand out band of the ’60s. Sorry Beatles, Rolling Stones, I love you but… Zeppelin are the Mutt’s Nuts!
US Customs…
Don’t ask me how much my Gibson Les Paul Custom is worth then throw it to one side like it’s a piece of junk…
…F*cking Ar$eholes!!!
Because they took part in a professional 24hr Endurance race does not make them Professional. Henceforth why they had to have a highly visible 1ft-by-1ft yellow square with a black cross on the square so other drivers and teams would know they’re not professional drivers nor a professional team, but are amateurs that do not hold a Super-Licence. That was highlighted during the Top Gear segment. Anyone that has a normal road going licence can take part so long as they strictly go by the Rules and Regulations.
Because they drive incredibly fast and powerful Supercars also does not make them any kind of racing driver, be it Amateur to Professional. There’s no rules saying you can’t own a Ferrari Enzo after you passed your test in a little Fiat 500. That doesn’t mean one is unique in any way…
In any case, I fail to get the point…
Anyhow, Formula 1 weekend. Should be interesting because it’s forecast for torrential rain, thunder and lightning, complete with high torque F1 cars that are made of electric that haven’t had significant testing in wet weather…
Like the above. Holding a door open for someone, and they walk through without a glance or a word of thanks.
I just say in a loud voice “Don’t mention it” or “You’re welcome”
New York is great for that! Aaaah the sarcasm and satisfaction of taunting New York folk… They just don’t get it! I do love Understated Humour, it’s what puts Great into Great Britain. :dev2:
Some people don’t respect other people’s gear, hate people like that. Last year, went over to the US (or came over since I’m in this part of the world right now) and I brought over a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Amp-Head, which is worth around Β£2,200, and it got wrecked by the twits in US Customs. Because it’s a Valve/Tube Amplifier the glass inside was just all over the place. Wasn’t a happy bunny!
Depends on their skill. Some guys get plenty of training in F1 cars but can never push the car to it’s absolute limit, there’s been guys that have gone from GP2 cars straight into 3.0 litre V10 machines and have absolute shined. Back in the early 90s, Damon Hill got put into Williams as a Test Driver with no F1 background and he was just as quick, or quicker, than the likes of Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost. It was Mansell and Prost that got him into Williams by persuading Frank and Patrick because he had an unnatural talent in an F1 car.
Fair enough.
For ballsy racing, the BTCC is more exciting (for me at least), mainly because the cars aren’t as fragile as Formula 1 cars. There’s no such thing as wheel-to-wheel action in the BTCC, it’s more like exchanging body paint and maybe the odd wing mirror or wing here and there. They don’t have the budget as F1 teams do but that’s because the Rule & Regulations are more relaxed and simple & straight-forward, plus the added benefit of being UK based. The drivers seem to be constantly p*ssed too which is amusing, never happy. Great racing though.
Formula 1 is a technical sport, it’s not just about overtaking in the same way Boxing isn’t just about Knockouts. The technical aspect plays the biggest part of Formula 1, especially nowadays as race management is ultimately down to the driver, thus they must always be constantly thinking a few laps a head of the rest of the field, that’s where the main fight is. Too many people watch it and expect drivers to go out all guns blazing without contemplating they have to quite literally plan their race, during the race. Of course, drivers and teams go in with several plans of action but most of the time they’re having to manage during the race because their previous plans have gone all to ar*e because there’s been an incident, safety car, weather interferences or they’ve simply flat-spotted a tyre or used too much fuel. It’s just annoying when people moan “nothing happens”.
Now of course, we could go back to the days, lets say the ’00s, when the drivers lined up on the grid, took off and basically drove around 30+ to 180+ seconds apart for 1hr 40+ minutes… Now, I don’t know about what you think but that was a decade of racing I’d like to forget, it was more exciting and more of an adrenaline rush to just Google the results. It’s because of seasons like those is why we have what we’ve got now, i.e. races we can watch where actually something happens and the past 3-4 years have seen some of the most hectic seasons there has been for a very long time, you’d have to go to the mid/late ’90s to find anything as exciting.
Don’t get me wrong, I prefer it if they’d done away with most of the features the cars have now, I prefer the 3.0litre V10s, but it’s something we just have to get use to. Everyone was in uproar when the monster V10s got the chop at the end of ’08 in favour for V8s (I was one of them), but after a few races the engines of yesteryear were quickly a thing of the past. It’ll be the same for the V6s. It’s early days yet, ’14 is mostly going to be one large Test Session, those little motors are going to be huge monsters once the Engineers find loop-holes, mark my words. It was the same story for the V8s, they were meant to be cost efficient, less powerful, slower etc.
The teams have already found ways around the Rules & Regulations with regards to Aerodynamics this weekend. Some have even found ways to make the cars quicker in a straight line, and around corners, than last years cars & we’re only just past the second race!
No so technically minded viewers, then. Songs of Praise is on the other side, just need to click a button to turn over. It’s not that difficult.
I seem to remember a lot was happening and found it tricky at times to keep up with what was happening, plenty of action, but the Director was hopeless and missed some of the best bits but then again, Malaysia, Petronas, big knobs from the company at the race, Mercedes 1-2, had to have air time…
I’m a little surprised at Red Bull, they’ve come such a long way in no time at all to improve the car. They have some seriously good Engineers with incredibly good problem solving skills there, I’ve got a feeling they’re going to dominate again very soon.
Has anyone seen BBC’s Grand Prix: The Killer Years?… I fully recommend it, absolutely heart breaking. Word of warning though, its not for the faint hearted.
π Well it’s a good something to tell the grand children one day
I wish we (my Girl and myself) could have the opportunity to do so…
The other downside of touring is there’s a high chance your gear can be damaged… No wonder Steve (fellow Guitarist) uses a Digi-System these days. Lol.
π Just think about commuting into a city office everyday faced with paperwork and tedium – – sounds good to me compared to that π
I’ll still have to do that to keep the Job Centre and HMRC off my back when I’ve finished these next few more gigs, there’s a bit of a gap until the next ones. π My day-to-day job is a Guitar Technician, and the odd sales here and there that comes with it.
What sort of music do you play ?
At the minute for the Artist I’m playing for, Heavy/Industrial Rock, or the sound that is. Generally, Metal, Rock, Classic Rock, Classical, Blues, Jazz etc. Usually I spend more time just messing about. π
