Have to giggle at the French side*

When the IAF brought their gear to the UK, the exersice was more to do with how the likes of the RAF & IAF worked along side eachother with of course the Typhoon, MKI and other aircraft from both sides. It wasn’t always RAF ‘vs’ IAF but more of, if one may put it this way, RAF/IAF ‘vs’ IAF/RAF with a mixed fleet of aircraft.

BlackArcher, I was quoting Air International about the ‘very, very’ thing. I didn’t intentionally state the IAF were ‘very, very’ impressed with Captor-M. Still impressed neverless. The RAF pilots couldn’t fully exploit Captor-M’s BVR capabilities due to the size of the area they were cleared for operating in in the UK. This was also in Air International. Not necessarily word for word.

As for the rest, I was just stating what was reported, not trying to convince people that it’s true, and unlike some supporters I don’t take everything for granted from the likes of Eurofighter GmbH or Eurofighter World. Whether one wants to believe them or not, then one is big enough to make up one’s mind.

The source(s) quoting Stephen Dalton were quite widely reported and to my knowledge weren’t countered by any IAF officials. From what I gathered the IAF Jocks didn’t consider the Tornado F3 to be a major threat, however it certainly should never be underestimated & it was stated that they were ‘very, very impressed’ with the Typhoon, especially with its performance, power and it’s Captor-M radar, (which wasn’t even fully exploited by the RAF Typhoon pilots).

Other points mentioned by Shiv were also reported although not to a significant extent despite seeming to be by reliable sources. They’re out there floating about on the net somewhere, some people just need to do that little thing called, ‘looking’.

There was also a hell of a lot of reliable sources reporting the Typhoon was technically leading the race and a handful of others stating it was favoured by many in India, however, costs weren’t mentioned during these times which are the deciding, somewhat ‘sole’, factor in the competition.

    Hi Gary,

I really like all the aviation magazines Key publish even though I’m not that into all kinds of aviation, mostly military or to be more exact the Cold War era, however Key’s authors have a canny knack of getting readers’ attention and explaining things no matter one’s area of interest in aviation.

I also admire the author’s unbiasedness & open-mindedness to what they report, although “some people” (mention no names) don’t seem to want to grasp these facts when it doesn’t suite their minds. But at the end of the day, ‘Honesty’ is what keeps people interested no matter what it may be and the honesty of the authors makes these magazines what they are and I’m also sure Key has a strict policy on this particular area.

What I would like to see is, is more supplements featured every now and then, maybe something like a feature on any particular event from the past. For example; the launching/first flight of a particular aircraft or events of the Yom Kippur War etc. Something along those lines.

Keep up the great work anyway.

    Kindest regards,
    Wayne

    Tmor, I didn’t know I had a “beloved journalist”?

I don’t, and never will by into this “5th-Generation” marketing gibberish, no matter if its from Eurofighter GmbH, BAE Systems, Boeing, Dassault, LM or whoever journalist. Not at all sorry to disappoint you.

Mildave, when one makes a claim just as silly as their signature, then one deserves to be called a first class plank. Ironic what some people say.

Since this is a Typhoon thread…Usually. *Sigh*

Eurofighter, a consortium of European aircraft makers, wants to sell 40 Eurofighter Typhoon 2020 jets to the Turkish Air Force, senior company officials said . “We are offering to Turkey the opportunity to jointly develop the Eurofighter 2020, the next version of the Eurofighter,” said Marco Valerio Bonelli, head of public relations and communications at Eurofighter. “It wouldn’t be parts production, but joint development.”

To claim that “Rafale is a true 5th generation aircraft”, is just as bollox as, “Typhoon is a warm weather plane. If you want to be operational at -20°C you have to deploy the F-4F.” There ain’t half some first class Planks that like to troll, eh.

You seem to be forgetting historical precedent.

If you discover it, claim it, and populate it… it’s yours.

Human beings have been doing that since the beginning of time.

Try telling that to Argentina’s half-wit political leaders. Then again, they’re only interested in the natural resources the Falklands has to offer. Pity for Argentina they’re not getting any.

To ironically go “off-topic” on this thread, I think its about time some of us started discussing military aviation since this is what this part of the forum is about, thus in this case the aircraft of Argentina and Great Britian?

Whack into the deck would be a good way to disappear from a radar screen, or re-route to Malta.

Care to keep Rafale related discussions to a Rafale thread? I know its fulfilling for the usual lot to talk about certain claims on an unrelated thread or maybe even join a Eurofighter forum just to post Rafale news, yes I’m pointing my finger at you, but it gets rather tedious after a while when one doesn’t have anything interesting to say. So maybe its best to ‘Hop’ along and let people that are interested in Typhoon have a discussion.

Let’s not pretend that Argentina gives a flying flip about the inhabitants of the Falklands.

Their pride is hurt and they want the mineral rights.

    It’s as simple as that.

    X1.

From what I can gather, Argentina have never officially mentioned anything regarding what the Islanders really want (corrections welcome). Maybe apart from claiming a certain flock of birds inhabiting The Falklands being “Argentine” there for, they have a right to claim…Or some nonsense like that. Yes, they did claim this and yes, I’m flabbergasted also.

Recent statements or claims from the Argentine Government about The Falklands have been, somewhat pitiful and rather embarrassing. Various statements and claims they’ve, or recently made have hurt their credibilty to a point where one would just be in fear to leave one’s home to avoid embarrassment.

Apparantly, Cristina Kirchner stated that Britian’s stance on The Falklands was “Absurd”. Quite a claim whom’s country started a war by invading the Islands. But at least she got the name right.

“Joint sovereignty”? Never going to happen.

When I look at world’s map, I really don’t see how is that a British territory. I could understand if Falklands were declared a sovereign state – most likely member of Commonwealth. But a British soil? No way

If you look at the map and learn where The Falkland Islands are located and don’t see how they are British territory, then you also must think the same about The Jersey Islands, wouldn’t you not? The Jersey Islands are much closer to France so there for they must belong to the French. Sorry to ruin your day but it doesn’t work like that. Both share the same National Anthem and are rather British, though dependency on the UK differs.

Englishmen will be “piratas” as long as argentines are “argies”, so I’m guessing for a long, long time.

I don’t remember the UK invading the islands thus starting the war.

Obviously. It is a myth down here, yet it never got hit let alone sunk in the real world.

    Fixed that bit for you.

Btw, if members of the British Armed Forces spilt their blood & gave their lives to take back what was already theirs, then those islands are rightly called The Falkland Islands and nothing else.

Can we talk modern aviation since this part of the forum is exactly that? Maybe whos got what in that part of the world. Although it might cause a bit of a stir, but other than that this thread doesn’t need to exist here.

    Ta.

The second of Britain’s next-generation destroyers today began her maiden deployment as HMS Dauntless departed Portsmouth on a bright but chilly spring morning. The Type 45 destroyer is heading for six months in the South Atlantic, taking over from the current patrol ship, Devonport-based frigate HMS Montrose.

There was a sizeable crowd crammed on to Round Tower with flags and good luck banners to witness Dauntless’ departure just after10am, an event also witnessed by international media and a couple of helicopters buzzing around overhead.

Her Commanding Officer, Captain Will Warrender, said:

“HMS Dauntless’ ship’s company has been working extremely hard over the last year or so to prepare for our first operational deployment.

“We are now ready to provide a reassuring presence in the region and protect British interests.”

    http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/News-and-Events/Latest-News/2012/April/04/120404-Daunless-A-big-send-off

This should ruffle a few feathers… :diablo:

Not strictly aviation, but there is a helicopter in one of the images, and HMS Dauntless is going to play with the RAF’s Typhoons down there. 😀

MSphere, of course I’m proud to call The Falklands British as I am of the armed forces that keep my loved one, family, friends and myself peacefully a sleep at night. I don’t give an ar$e what other countries think, but it is annoying when certain people mouth off what they believe is right when in actual fact they couldn’t be more ill-informed of the circumstances. Personally, despite being approximately 3 months old at the time The Falklands War started, it still, and always will do, lays close to my heart because 2 of my uncles both served and fought during this war, Royal Navy and Royal Marines. So yeah, I’m going to be quite patriotic and protective when moronic d*cks like Quadbike spouts off racial rubbish.

At the end of the day, if the islanders want to remain British, then so be it. The UK has every right to claim The Falklands as their own.

“The islands won’t stay British for too long…”

    Bollox!

After further reading through this thread theres very little reason to add further comments from myself when the likes of MShpere can’t grasp the reasoning of why the Islanders on The Falklands want to, and always will do, remain British, and Quadbike’s rather silly and pathetic and somewhat racial views on the British, theres no hope to get a point across to the ignorant and the down right ill-informed of historical issues, and hypocritical. So weldone, Quadbike, you’ve finally established yourself to be a first class troll and a bit of a pillock. It was inevitable really.

Btw, they’re called The Falklands for a reason. ‘Being British’ has something to do with it and if Argentina or anyone else thinks they’ll be in their grubby little hands in the future, one better think again. Our lads & lasses didn’t spill their blood and end up being mentally scarred for the rest of their lives for nothing.

    The Falklands = British.

    RAF Typhoon Display Team ’12

    From a few days ago:

The 2012 Royal Air Force Typhoon Display Team will be provided by RAF Leuchars based 6 Squadron.

“We are extremely proud to be given the task of reintroducing the Typhoon aerobatic display and showcasing the aircraft’s capabilities to the public” said Air Officer Scotland and Station Commander RAF Leuchars, Air Commodore Gavin Parker. “This is another feather in the cap for 6 Squadron.

The display pilot this year will be Sqn Ldr Scott Loughran, 37, who returns to the airshow display circuit having served as the Typhoon Display Pilot in 2009 whilst serving as an instructor on 29(R) Sqn at RAF Coningsby. “There was a formal selection process and each of the squadrons put in their nominations. Having been a display pilot previously I was delighted to be selected to display again in 2012.”

The new display is the first time a front-line Typhoon Squadron has provided a team and the first using Tranche 2 aircraft, the Typhoon FGR4.

One challenge for any display pilot is seeking to present something different to previous displays.

“The Typhoon demonstrated its multi-role capability during Operation Ellamy flying both air-air and air-surface missions,” said Sqn Ldr Scott Loughran. “However it’s difficult to demonstrate these capabilities at an airshow so I have elected todemonstrate the aircraft’s excellent performance in terms of maneuverabilty and power. Havingperformed as the display pilot previously I have got a feel for what was well received by the public and my aim is to build on that this year.

    http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/archive/typhoon-display-team-28032012

It’d be a nice touch if the Typhoon used for display had some special markings or a different colour scheme to remember the RFC. Yes, the RFC was a branch of the British Army and the RAF were officially founded, or merged I should say, in 1918. After all, the RFC was the early beginnings of the RAF.

Finally! Argentina release their version of the war. However, they got at least one thing wrong. The Islands are called ‘The Falklands’ not ‘The Malvinas’. Their kids are going to end up being proper thick planks with history lessons like this. 😀

To keep it an aviation discussion*

I feel the need, somewhat cruelly, to walk into an Argentine primary school and read them Dave Morgan’s Hostile Skies. With some brouchers from BAE Systems about the Typhoon, Class 45 Destroyer etc “accidently” slipped inbetween random pages. ‘Ooops, what are these that have fell to the floor? (No not your lot) Ah these’ll be interesting, let me read these out to you too. Btw children, the reason why I’m speaking in English is because they do on The Falklands too, as in the United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Ireland.’ :diablo:
