While it won’t be my first airshow, it will be my first in a LONG time. I am off to Ambereley air base next weekend for the Defence Force Airshow, and have a question. What is the recommended shutter speed for flyby shots? I have a Canon S50 digital.

Oh, hehe, sorry, it’s in the NAval section, NCIG. But of course that’s on the same forum. So I call it acig too…

It was a great program, and it is good to see so many examples of those magnificent machines still flying too!

I realise there is a topic there on ACIG, but why? I would not expect to see a submarine thread on an air combat forum.

Also, I hear the Vepr is an Akula II- while the Gepard is held by some to be actually an “Akula III”- since the Vepr, judging from it’s pictures in port at Brest, has the dorsal stern “pod” like previous types, even though its been confirmed to be 4m longer than previous Akula types.

Some say that new tech was incorporated into the Gepard that allowed the elimination of the pod, hence the K-335 Gepard is actually an “Akula III”, so to speak.

I have to admit this has puzzled me too. I have profile diagrams in one book showing Gepard is clearly a ‘different’ boat compared to the Vepr. That same book, the 2003/4 Weyers Fleets of the World, also lables Gepard as an ‘Akula III’. The project types I have seen are 971/971U/971A (or M). There is still conjecture over whether or not the Vepr is indeed a true Akula II. Perhaps it could be a modified Improved Akula I, possibly as a transitional design?

And why would there be a topic on SSNs at ACIG?

Carlton did finish very strong this year. Do you think Port Adelaide could do what the Crows did 6 years ago and go back-to-back next year?

    I know, bummer! 🙁

Port Power did play the better game today, and I think were simply fitter with better legs in the end too, and deserve the win. The Lions are still legends for their 2001-2002-2003 three-peat though, and that is good enough for me! 🙂

    Bring on next year. 🙂

    Amazing…!

For one who has a passion for Japanese aircraft of WW2, these Oscars are absolutely AWESOME!!! 🙂

Hazegray is out of date. I don’t think it has been updated in 2 years now. Janes from last year listed 7 OSCAR IIs and 8 AKULAs in service, for sure one, but possibly two of them AKULA IIs. I had a thread about the AKULA-class a while ago but it seems to have vanished. (…?)

Don’t worry Nermal, it’s very much an Aussie thing. 🙂

Why a 1/2400 scale DELTA III? Good to see you are using Humbrol enamels too. I swear by them!

I explained my interest to my lady when we first started going out, I mean when she saw my library I had little choice. She quizzed me on it. She understands, but doesn’t share the interest. She’ll buy books and related stuff for me for birthdays etc, but that’s it. Not important really, as I fell in love with her for other reasons.

GDL you got 2,4,5 and 6 (can’t get Japan plane past you 😀 ) Cheers Crazymainer

    But I didn’t get No.3. 🙁

Axis aircraft, especially the Japanese are a specialty for me. I have an affinity for them.

A passion for flight and history is usually how I tell it from my point of view. I don’t chase planes at every opportunity, but I do get carried away sometimes when something impressive flys by. Off to a major airshow next for the first time in years, and I will be like a school boy in a candy store for at least the day. 🙂

I will share the pics when I get back, just praying for good weather now.

Me, a long time ago (still looking roughly the same, especially from a distance and when comparing with unclear shots). Probably long ago enough to be allowed in the Historic Aviation section? The parrafin burner was about to make it’s final flight when the pic was taken, if that is of any comfort.

    Arthur,

The Fitter you are crouching in front of, Was it an ex-Soviet example just prior to the withdrawal from Germany, or Poland? Would the photo be circa 1992/3 if that is the case? And as for the ‘spying’ incident, how long did they hold you? And what is the fascination with recording construction numbers?
