Not cutting edge but…….

🙂 🙂
What seems to be forgotten in all the paranoia is the fact that we are not likely AT ALL to be attacked by anyone in our region for the forseeable future. And even with the apparent proliferation of cruise missiles and so forth, boosted regional defence is the impetus, not regional domination. The Indonesians, for example, are NOT buying up to launch an attack on us, and won’t be able to effectively without buying 10 times more than they plan to in the next 10 years. That is not going to happen, they simply can’t afford it.
The thing that amazes me still even now, is that these people think that if we retire the F-111s early, and have a questionable capability gap before the F-35 arrives, it will be open season on Australia! For god’s sake – FROM WHO?!?! AND WHEN?!? AND BY WHAT MEANS!?!
It is getting utterly ridiculous……

It doesn’t look real. Just my gut feeling.
Thanks Mark. And the .mil addresses used to be available to me but for some reason they are not now. Did something happen to make them harder to access?
thanks guys for the info, but…
it is still unclear if the Mig-29K for the indian navy will be 100% new airframes or just upgraded 9-12 or 9-13 or 9-17, or whatever,
to me it seems they will be new but nothing’s clear at all.
thanks again.
Camaro.
For the price they are paying for 16 of them I would say they would have to be new builds.
I see there are lots of settings on it and am practising with it around the house at the minute. I notice some of the shots I take inside can be a bit grainy but those taken outside look OK.
Ross,
I got my first digital last year, a Canon S50, and I found practise, and MORE practise, to be the best way of working out what works. The beauty of course with a digital is that you can do that to your heart’s content and only have to worry about charging a battery. To add, make sure you get a decent memory card too, and always have a back up If you anticipate taking a LOT of high res photos.
The F-15K will be better than anything in the USAF inventory ( even after the latest PGM common upgrade to USAF E models ) ( don’t know about the building of two… yes two… F-15Es autorized for USAF to purchase to keep the line open ) ( Love seeing my tax dollars go to waste ). ( those two airframes have the latest stuff but will still be USAF specific. ( at least USAF will have the excellent SNIPER XR. Pod.
The K will have an insane amount of stuff as part of the original deal. HARM ( USAF crews have the software and menu routine in the jet but never train with it at all, ) SLAM-ER ( again USAF doesn’t even train with that ). JDAM of course. and all the other things like that. I will have to look again. Given the theater, I wouldn’t be suprised it they get WCMD CBU-105 SFW ( Sensensor Fused Weapons “Skeets” { BLU-108 /B }. Pricey, but stops AFVs out in the open, dead. HOBS Helmet_Heater,… The radar is better in the K also. Way better engines, etc. etc. Because of the competition a few years ago, the K got everything you can imagine put into it, except nuke weapon menus. They will get the most awesome F-15E ( K ) combat crew simulator and the airframes will be NVG capable.
Probably why they are paying USD$4 billion for 40 of them….
Don’t care Ja, Kopp is a ##@@$@! 😡
Lets not forget about the colourful Aggressors!

ok guys i need some light, please.
the word on the neighbourhood is that the K’s are nothing but navalized SMT’s (9-17) converted to K (9-47?), it seems confusing, because we are talking about new airframes and not old 9-12 nor 9-13 airframes.
or is it just the fact that it will not be aluminium – lithium alloy?
thanks to all my brothers… 😎
Camaro.

Section 6 from the above link on the Mig-29K/KUB will help answer your questions. The wings have been made longer and slightly larger to improve low speed handling too.
Picture of an F-16C taken from Nellis during RED FLAG in 2000.

The caption with the photo:
Lockheed-Martin F-16C Fighting Falcon 87-0362 of the Air Warfare Center’s 53rd Fighter Wing based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida carries tail code OT.A large portion of the 53rd Wing’s test activities involve testing software upgrades used in combat aircraft and weapons, and radar systems in operation-oriented missions. Test missions involve the use of avionics in realistic scenarios in order to test systems and tactics in combat-like situations. This F-16C is carrying AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM).
Referring to bold section. Could this be why you have F/A-22s at Nellis AFB under going T&E, but actually assigned to the 53rd FW out of Eglin? Is the 422nd Testing Squadron part of the 53rd FW?
Off the topic a little but I want to get to the bottom of this.
The F/A-22 (with the F-16) pictures are from Nellis. The F-16 and Raptor both belong to the 422 TES (a unit at Nellis that does Operational Testing).
The birds at Tyndall (with the TY tailcode) will be used to train new pilots on the aircraft before they go to Langley AFB VA (the first operational unit).
So you’ve basically got Nellis (OT) doing the operational testing; Tyndall (TY) doing the training; and Langley (FF) doing the ‘mission’. And oops, almost forgot the ‘golden arms’ at Edwards (ED) making sure the plane can fly right side up.
Mark
Thanks Mark but I have Nellis AFB with the ‘WA’ tailcode. Is the ‘OT’ code actually depicting Operational Testing as opposed to an actual base code?
I could not figure out how Australia would view India as a threat when they do not even figure in our millitary plans
Tell me about it! Perhaps Carlo Kopp needs to be payed a visit by some Indian officials with large clubs!
Thanks Guys, I suspected this might be the case, but what I have been told by the staff contradicts it. Anyway, only time for me was when I came back from Tokyo in 1993 with a suitcase at 36 kg and I got charged, and that was QANTAS.
Which country in the Indian ocean wold that be?
The US has not shown any unwillingness and to be frank, if the US can have a Navy worth its while in the Indian ocean, so can India, what Indian ocean country will mind bar Pakistan of course, mauritius Maldives? Sri Lanka? Kenya?
I am not talking about next week, but 15-20 years form now when India WILL have the kind of fleet it is planning on. Today’s friends may not necessarily be the same in another decade or so.
