I had these 3D Printed for a P40 Panel a friend drew them up and placed them on Shapeways. The original mount was manufactured from a material called Tenite which is a flexible plastic So do them in black plastic was a good alternative.

1990 was the last time the Beaufighter was ground run.

It’s the main power switch for a variety of Australian produced aircraft, Beaufighter, Boomerang and Wackett spring to mind.

I have a simple way to value anything it’s worth as much as the next person is prepared to pay. Or a dollar fifty a kilo.
As for fitting out the panel EBay is your friend. Mind you the what was a red light on the upper left of the panel was a red dome I pinched off one of my kids toys so that may be hard to replicate.

It was an ABC Series titled Half A World Away on the 1934 Air Race. The Dh88 Comet Replica we produced had 8hp Briggs and Strattons under the cowls. As to create the illusion of a ground running aircraft. The last I heard of this replica it was in a yard across the road from Tyabb Airport. As for the radiation danger of the gauges we did try to refrain from licking them too much.

I actually made this panel back around 1990 for a replica Dh88 I built for a mini series which was produced here in Australia.

Thanks for the replies. The Grip is now being utilised in a Firefly restoration. So a great comeback for an item dumped at the tip.

The building was literally built around the Beaufighter.

Don started at Glosters in 1937. Starting on Gladiators and continuing onto Hurricanes before being transferred into the drawing office in 1942. So to be able to get Don back onto the tools and drive a few rivets is something I consider to be a real honour for me. These are the special moments which make being involved in aircraft restoration so great.

Well done Phil an interesting article. You do tend to cop a bit of flak occasionally from the know it all gunners. But it’s great to see you enjoying your passion and helping to encourage others to become involved.

You are welcome of course when we have a working bee at the shop and you can even bring bits of your own project.

If it all seems a bit confusing may I suggest you pick up a book called Aircraft Sheet metal in a series by Jeppesen. There is one on Amazon for 25.00 US
That will certainly give you a good basics in rivetting and sheetmetal.

    cheers,
    Ash.
