The BBMF website page on AB910 contains the following text ……
For the 2012 display season AB910 will appear in the colour scheme that it actually wore whilst serving with No 133 (Eagle) Squadron in 1942, with its ‘MD-E’ code letters. The full story of Spitfire AB910’s part in the fierce aerial battles that took place during the Dieppe Raid on 19 August 1942 is in the RAF BBMF 2012 Yearbook

But no pix yet of the new paint 🙂
Thanks for the clarification ‘Stormin’
My cunning plans to photograph TE311 and AB910’s new squadron codes are thwarted ….. 🙂
Excellent news !
Is there any way of telling which Spitfire is which on the Excel spreadsheet on the BBMF website for this years display season ?
🙂
Looking at the Super Constellation Flyers events list for 2012 ~

Their Connie is due to appear at Farnborough in July 🙂
BBMF’s Spitfire XVIe ~ TE311 should be gracing the sky this year too …..

Here’s my photo – essay from The Friends of The Fighter Collection Event on Sunday evening.
Images taken with the new Canon G1X point and shoot camera ~ using a tripod and a six or eight second exposure time. The camera is in fact so new that it’s not yet supported by Photoshop ~ so I’ve just converted the RAW files into JPEG’s and resized them to share 🙂
Both the TFC’s Bearcat and P-47 Thunerbolt were positioned before dark ~ which enabled photographers to get some nice angles of both …..

Of the two ~ I have to admit that I am rather smitten with “Snafu”

Then inside to listen to two informative talks …..

Although my attention was briefly diverted by the setting sun kissing the nose of the P-40 behind me

Immediately before some food ~ it was time to go outside and watch the Spitfire Mark V perform an engine run

The final part of the evening allowed photographers the rare opportunity to take some images of TFC aircraft after dark
Spitfire V ~ EP120 …..

The Bearcat …..

Did I mention I’m smitten by the Thunderbolt …..

Many, many thanks to everyone at The Fighter Collection for such a well organised event. And especially for rearranging the lighting so we could get different moods and effects in our pictures.
How many hours and days is it now I wonder before TFC’s Flying Legends Air Show at Duxford Airfield on June 30th and July 1st ? 🙂 🙂 🙂

Anyone thought to get AB910 and EP120 together this year as they both flew in the Dieppe Raid?
What an excellent idea !
Woo Hoo !
“AB910 ~ Air test w/c 5 March”
Will the new paint scheme be finished by then or afterwards I wonder 🙂
For those who haven’t visit the BBMF website recently ~ read the last paragraph of this page

perhaps they were all buying groceries/doing their washing/housework/cutting lawns/working etc etc
Actually ~ I was at home toiling away on the computer
Much of the display at the airfield was below the tree line at my cottage ~ but the fast run-in over Chrishall Grange would have been perfect if I’d been standing in the garden.
Can we have LOTS more of these this summer please ! 🙂 🙂 🙂
The B-17G at Galveston is operated by the Lone Star Flight Museum. Check out the advert they regularly place in Flypast for details about the other aircraft which offer rides ( B-25 / P-51 / T-6 / Stearman ).
If you want to fly in a warbird at Airsho at Midland ~ be sure to either book before travel or head straight into the CAF hangar first thing on Saturday. ( B-17 / B-25 / B-29 were all doing good business last October )
🙂
what has been people’s experience of the use of monopods in ‘no tripod’ venues
Ah ! Moggy ~ that was my next question !
I’ve been looking at a monopod that has 4 tiny legs at the bottom for stability :diablo:
Not sure if it’s still really a monopod or a ‘quadpod’
Either way …. I too would like to hear about other peoples experiences 🙂
Of course a quick search reveals there is a web site …..

Doh !
For a moment or two I thought there was a revised colour scheme coming for 2012 when I saw the thread title

Poorly attempted by me in Photoshop
If the outer wing sections were also in blue the under view of the “red arrow” would be really something to see 😀
