Ok many thanks
Above is a picture of the green disc from the prop I’m trying find out about
all I can read on the disc is
RS
4594
530
6280
67208
under disc it says “set/fine”
on the underside/base all I can read is
67/HRS
523 6644
HRA 65301
SA1022
This is one of two props I’ve now got and I’ve been told they originated from someone who was employed as an RAF driver during WWII from an airfield in S E England and they was deemed unfit for repair. I have further information but nothing about what type of spitfire they came from. The other is a early jablo and both in original condition.
Many thanks
I think if you follow the OP’s link the intention is to turn the blade into pens.

Absolutely not for making pens
This is for display only at all the shows we do, and will be displayed first at Royal Highland Show in four weeks
Come along and see and maybe buy a pen at the same time 🙂
I would not cut up a complete propeller and make pens.
We only use broken and damaged propellers

The only markings ive found are the ones on the base diameter.
I will try the chalk trick tomorrow as damp cloth and torch just don show clear enough
I don’t think this is relevant, but will mention anyway
Underneath the plastic on top tip written in pencil 804 and maybe followed by another 8 and followed un readable writing
Martin
cant find anything on steel screw
Ok will try chalk, but none in house so have to get some tomorrow
Thanks all for help here, its appreciated
Thanks very helpful
The letters are definite
The numbers clearly 4 & 6 and what looks like 0 with gaps I just cant read
Below these markings is also RW?58 I believe also stamped but so so faint
That’s interesting thank you
Maybe its been doing the rounds and being pushed as a Spitfire Prop ???
Any one have any ideas what aircraft this has come from?
Its was intended as show display but now having second thoughts
Martin
I bought this from a antique dealer from the midlands
ok I think it says RA 406 RS
Underneath that green gunk I can see what looks like D?940 which would make it a Barracuda blade. Also used on the Defiant II & Wellington VI.
Anne
Just checked under the gunk is DA.940
What a fascinating thread. Thank you for sharing.
My number 1 is the Mosquito, but very very close behind has to be the Spitfire

The people who have responded to your question know their stuff – you can be certain!
I must say the knowledge that’s on this site is amazing
Every time I Google a aircraft related question. I’m always directed to this forum with the only answers
As some of you know I make historic pens and recently started looking for old damaged props and without the help from this site I would be completely blind
Thanks guys
Martin
DA940 fitted to propeller type RS5/6, Weybridge construction with Acetate covering, 11′ 9″ diameter, fitted to Defiant II with Merlin XX.
This is certainly larger than a Spitfire propeller.
The width of the prop is 36cm, would this be right for the Defiant II ?
Martin
PS sorry for all the questions 😮 I just need to be certain
