Maybe next year we might see the first of these 1000 t/r module Zhuk-A on a MiG-29..??
http://vpk-news.ru/news/2552/
It’s not a new radar though. And with the ongoing development of the 1000 t/r module Zhuk AESA since it was first shown. We’d likely see a lot more potent specs then the previosly reported once.
Our friend Khathi from MP.NET has mentioned that they did indeed tried to integrate surface to air missile(s) into UKSK launchers as an afterthought but ran into some snaggs.
I don’t recall the details of the problem(s) he mentioned but you should be able to find it.

😮 …you got to be ******* kidding me. That’s just sad.
Because making a subsonic missile longer range without some serious onboard guidance system is useless. By time the missile gets to its target. It’s possible for the target to be miles away where it’s supposed to have been.
Granted the ARGS-54 active/passive radar in the klubs have good range and Russian AShM klubs have mid-course updates from what I hear.
Likely though is that the solid rocket-powered last stage takes up alot of room sacrificing fuel tanks for the turbojet. Hence the significantly shorter range.
I haven’t heard anything about Gorshkov being barely financed at this point..
It is the lead ship with a bunch of new systems, incidentally the parts that are yet to be fitted. Seems logical to me.
I’m sure that’s part of it also.
And i got my info from KiwiRob @ defencetalk(yeah I know) he works for a company that supplies Russian navy with something(don’t recall what) generay all the tidbits he dropped on that forum been so far true.
About bloody time. Also I can’t help but laugh at the 14000 ton destroyer malarkey. The Gorshkov are being barely financed from what I’ve read and it sure looks that way judging by the slow build pace. Even if they are planning to build them couple of years from now on with an improved economic situation how long will it take to build them and in what numbers ?
A beefed up Gorshkov class with longer endurances and a bigger arsenal like you suggested once TR would I think be a better idea, although not ideal for future proofing and as you as I recall stated wouldn’t offer much value over the 20350 frigates. But atleast they could be built faster and in numbers.
I just don’t get it why ? Why go for 14000 ton destroyer and a nuclear one at that at such a time frame ?
Edit
But **** what do I know.
Great scene in a movie though – Apocalypse Now on steroids.
Now imagine throwing a few Mi-28s into the mix.
We need a drool icon.
No, Mi-28’s but….
:diablo:
If a buttload of japanese surface combatant ships and vessels are heading for the kurils. I’d have a hard time believing they’d not position those SSK’s well over 100+ km from the coast.(assuming they aren’t already there patrolling and waiting just in case for such scenario to happen.) And in time of war even more so.
Nowhere did I mention anything about SSKs arresting damn fishermen goddammit.
Edit
Also I must admit for whatever reason I always assumed that territorial waters extended much further then 22 km from the coast.
The name is a giveaway. It has to be NPO Mash.
Unfortunately, Russia’s greatest drawback is its lack of ability to sell a ‘finished’ product/concept that is still only on the paper.
I cant think of many countries that are able to do so.
Бред.
Why ?
w.r.t the Skorpion class… did they even seriously check for foreign customers? Iran could have become a probable customer as these missile boats/ships would be bringing their capability to a much higher level. class. Any deal would have also meant much needed funds for Russian yards.
Don’t know about that. But it’s hard to sell something that still floats around on paper.
Kirov class size “destroyers” won’t happen. At best you can dream of baby kirov’s like the planned project 1293 and the project 1199 that would have shared the same hull as the 1293. Those would have had displacement between 13000 and 15000 tons.
Skorpions were aimed solely at the export market if i’m not mistaken.
Mitrofan is still in service (reserve) though it is interesting that the class was all but abandoned, and yet expensive foreign barges (Mistrals) are being bought.
Well, only two now

I kinda saw that coming.
Oh, lord. Patrolling and defending/blocking of the EEZ from enemies surface combatant ships and vessels. Is what I meant. I assure that everybody understood what I meant. When I first said this “SSK are basically ideal for the defence of the EEZ”
I don’t know were you got the bit about SSKs arresting fishermen from …but if you assume I meant that, then frankly you’re a fool.
I do admit, I should have said territorial waters though.
